“A Gem of Peace and Tranquility with a plethora of art and jewellery to admire and buy...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 19, 2014

We walked over here from Gateshead in about 15/20 minutes and then back into Newcastle in about 10/15 minutes afterwards, and although it was a rather uninspiring walk once past the bridges and quayside it was a delightful surprise. It truly is a gem worth going off the beaten track for. The art is a feast to enjoy with no obligation to buy, but if you do want something and it's too much they subscribe to the Own Art thingy, which means you pay a small amount there and then to get the piece and then pay it off over a year, which makes art more available to us commoners! Also really good to see quite a lot of art relevant to Newcastle and its history. We ate in the restaurant which was sadly empty but had a delicious 3 course set meal for £15. We particularly enjoyed eating edible violas with our fish! There was a menu with more choices but it was a little more pricey. The restaurant is filled with the art from the gallery it joins and is very spacious and airy. There is a simpler cafe upstairs too. Definitely worth a visit...

“Great place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 17, 2014

I visit this place often with my mum or my boyfriend - particularly for afternoon tea which is phenomenal. The price has gone up to £20 rather than the older cheaper prices, so will be coming for a treat rather than regularly. Food is great, and the art is always lovely and makes for a nice afternoon out. The staff are always friendly, however in the cafe recently, one of the waiters was particularly rude to a new staff member - slightly off putting! Then this waiter then forgot to bring over half of our food, so perhaps he needs to be critiqued rather than the poor new girl!! However, food was excellent (when a lovely waitress brought the rest of it) and the place is always great.

“Great cafe”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2014 via mobile

Only visited for lunch - didn't have much time to look around the gallery. The cafe is a great place to eat/meet - only a short drive from Newcastle City centre with easy parking. We came here as we wanted something to eat before shopping - and didn't fancy the usual chains in the city centre. Cafe has great ambience and the food was really good. We had a vegetable tagging - which was cooked to perfection.

“Great art great food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 12, 2013

Keep forgetting to do a review of this place, which is a shame as I'm always so impressed. The gallery is beautifully laid out, the art is fab and affordable- but the best thing about the place is the cafe. The food is delicious. Always so tasty and it never lets you down. It isn't cheap- £6 for bacon, Stilton and mango panini, however the quality is always first class. Love it

“Great food, with it's own art gallery, happening place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 6, 2013

Great food in decent sized portions, good service, nice ambiance if a little empty on a Thursday lunch time a fortnight before Christmas.

Pork terrine followed by cheese souffle was a heavier meal than intended for lunch.

Efficient and charming staff and good value, if a little off th beaten track.
