“Shame about the food”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 29, 2013

We have been fairly regular visitors to the "Vic" since it was refurbished. As a pub it has a great atmosphere and we used to love the food. In December we had a poor meal, in that the chicken Kiev was well overlooked and dry. Every one of our group had a complaint about their meal. So we hadn't eaten there again until last night but happily continued to use it for a drink. Maybe we picked the wrong night to try it as we had forgotten it was "Quiz Night" and the place was packed. Two meals we chose were unavailable and we were told it would be a while before it would be ready, which it was! I had chosen Hunters Chicken and it tasted fine but was served with a pile of very salty chips, no veg and no garnish. The others in my party said their meals were no better than mine. If they can't cope with serving food on Quiz Night they should say so and not put menus on the tables. Will still drink there but look elsewhere for dining.

“nice home cooking”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2012

Hadn't eaten here before though we do stop for a glass of wine now and again since it changed hands and became a nicer place to visit

Hubby had a Sunday roast; the presentation wasn't great but it was really tasty
I had mushroom stroganoff; same presentation but it was really rich and delicious

Good management and pleasant staff so we reckon give them a chance to settle in.
Good wine list and reasonably priced.
