“Crash and Splash excellent value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 15, 2013

This is the 2nd time I have stayed at this particular metro inn, and I am very pleased with the accommodation. friday and saturday night. not noisy. The carpets are grubby, but the sheets, toilets and showers are clean. We brought a kettle and tea making things with us - although there is a kettle and microwave in reception for guest use - free of charge. You would need slippers/flip flops and a robe too, as the loos can be wet-floored from the self cleaning mechanisms. We stayed in a double room with a bunk above, and all 3 of us had a cheap but pleasant weekend stay - which leaves lots of extra pennies for the things we want to do in the daytime. Nearby Newcastle and Gateshead have lots to do, Metro shopping and great bridges. If you have an extension lead or double plug it would be useful, as everything we brought with us needed charging, and we had to 'queue' for the plug! There are two if you unplug the telly. There is free Wi Fi here too, and the Toby pub next door does cheap yet awesome food all day including breakfast, and a great carvery.
I love the little budget touches - such as the pull for the blinds being a cable tie busted through the blind with a little keyring on it. :-). this also has open wide-as-you-like suicide windows, so if you like - you can jump! But really nice as the room for us got really stuffy at night, and the heat rises so the person in the top bunk was overheating and the big gust of air from the window was very welcome.
I would heartily recommend this - as long as you know what you are getting! Could shock the unprepared.

Room Tip: Difficult to say as I think they are all the same - ours was room 213 at the end of the corridor and...

Stayed here for a stag doo on the 1st 2013, can not fault the place! rooms where amazing and the staff were very helpful. There was a burger van by the front door, so instead of queuing at a kebab house, grab a taxi and buy a burger from here.

Burger with mustard and hotdog sausages! Good Stuff.

Brilliant hotel if you don't want to sleep and party all night.
Toilet and shower was brilliant, shower was very powerful and there was no toilet seat on the pan.

Overall an amazing hotel! Will defo visit again.

Room Tip: Ask for room 222 as it has a new door :)

I took my girlfriend here to get engaged and she was blown away how beautiful it was. The city centre location is excellent. Short romantic strole to the hot spots. Breakfast was delicious and the ensuite rooms were hard to beat

Not as bad as people make out, staff on the desk were friendly and welcoming, the rooms are basic but you get what you pay for. The only bad points is that there's only one plug socket per room and when there's 3 of you it's hard to get it, also there's a TV but ours didn't work. The hotel room was clean and tidy and so were the showers and toilets. Hannah, Claudia and Rachel.

Stayed here on Sunday night with my 2 daughters and had phoned ahead to check the place out. When we arrived there were groups of folk standing at the door smoking and drinking and drunk people hanging out the windows shouting and swearing. It was 6pm. At the reception you are met with a big notice saying drug taking will not be tolerated- hmm where had we come to. ! The room was filty and the carpet sticky. One power point that had an adaptor in it and an extension lead off that with a television plug in it that had no back on it. The television didn't work. The toilet was at the end of the corridor and serviced about 20 rooms. It was like a portaloo that you get in festivals that had been stuck in the wall. Totally vile and the floor was soaking wet and toilet chocked with paper. I would have left if there was anywhere else to go . The parties started about 8pm and went on all night screaming , shouting , runnining up and down corridors, laughing, banging , music blaring, doors banging, cars revving. None of us slept a wink. I got up on several occassions and went to complain at reception and there was a party going on there. No one was making any effort to stop the noise. We had to get up at 5am the next morning to travel on and work a full day at an agricultural show so needed a few hours sleep. We had none. The hotel should be shut down it is unbelievably bad- do not ever set foot in it. It was cheap and I Know people will say you get what you pay for . I paid £23 for my room. I have paid less than that in a travelodge and it is clean , quiet , working tv, kettle and ensuite. Avoid the Metro Inn !

Stayed with 5 mates for a 21st! In 2 triple rooms. Top night for starters! First arrived, staff extremely unhelpful, unwilling to help, with no conversation. Basically they don't want to be there! 50quid deposit per room! I can understand why as it was like a hostel, teenagers running everywhere naked to the showers. Can't really say I was to bothered!! Room Was like a prison! Plain and boring but surprisingly clean!
Got in at 3am and still girls and lads running All over the shop. Madness! Aggressive owner, threatening to kick everyone out! Only asked a question and said the police were going to be called.
Average location. 12 quid in a taxi.
Nice to pre drink, as we literally covered the floor with bottles and they weren't bothered, people staying in the hotel were nice made loads of friend. Probably would go back as it was only 14quid a person!?
