“Quirky Italian joint”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 29, 2013 via mobile

This place is brilliant. It is tiny but the food is excellent Italian cafe food that you have never heard of! The novel way of putting food together into a dish is really a welcome break from the chains. There are books to read when you have finished reading about all the things on the menu. This is a quiet place for the rejuvenating lunchbreak retreat. And in the summer you get to eat outside right on the beautiful Grey Street!

“Quirky coffee bar with the world's best cheese toastie (probably)”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 24, 2013

9Bar is another welcome addition to Newcastle's growing coffee scene. Sticking solidly to the theme of the caffeine buzz, it serves up excellent coffee and (bizarrely) the self-styled world's best cheese toastie. If that's not for you, there's tea, beer and wine, plus some lovely-looking cakes, flat breads and arancini (Italian rice balls).

The loud music contributes to a pumped up atmosphere, but if you want something more relaxing, the large patio out on Grey Street is another option, where you can sit and sip your coffee al fresco. There are also tables outside the doors on both Grey and Shakespeare Streets.

“Just what we wanted!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 2, 2013

Popped into 9 Bar as we were shopping in town and what a fab surprise, loved the quirkiness of both the chef and the décor. The size of the menu was perfect as not far too many choices but what choices there was were very original and delicious, cant wait to go back to try the risotto balls. Seats outside also for the rare sunny days. Looking forward to our next visit as its a little gem :))

“Good coffee and not a chain!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 2, 2013

Excellent cafe next to Theatre. Cute little tables inside and some seating outside.

Coffee is really good flavour and a decent size cup too. Some really unusual cakes available. Nice atmosphere.
