“Deserves the number 1 spot”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 19, 2012

We visited The Stand Bistro on Saturday night prior to a gig at the O2. I chose The Stand because of its TA rating and because it was convenient, both in geography and the timing of service. Everything was perfect. Our table was ready for us on arrival and the service throughout the evening was friendly, knowledgable, and relaxed. Just as it should be. On the advice of the waiter we tried a new gin and tonic combination and he helped my wife choose her main course with a very articulate description of the Thai inspired turkey dish. The food was excellent and great value. My rib-eye was cooked perfectly, always a gamble when trying somewhere new. All in all the meal set us up for a great evening. Highly recommended - we will definately visit when next in Newcastle.

Thanks for your kind words, we're doing our best to make sure the bistro keeps you well fed and satisfied with every return visit. Next time, why not pop down to the venue and catch a show, the comedy venue strives for the same level of quality as the bistro.

“Excellent”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2012

Lovely food at a good price. A good start to an evening at the comedy club downstairs. If I had to say a negative I'd say the place was a little cold the night we went. People in and out of the rear door brought a cold wind straight to our table. All in all a good night and we would be happy to return especially for the chocolate pots!

“A little bit of food before comedy”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2012

We visited the Bistro last night with a couple of friends. We booked for 6.15 and were surprised how busy the bistro was. We didnt have to wait long for our table and were promtly seated. This is a small venue but it didnt feel like you were too cramped. Tables are quite close but there was no intrusion from fellow diners.
We all had starters - smoked duck, samosa and prawns then for mains 3 of us had turkey with panko breadcrumbs and 1 vennison burger. All was beautifully presented and tasty. We had 2 bottles of Sauvignon Blanc. The bill came to £100 including a tip. Great value.

The waiter was friendly and engaged in conversation.

I would highly recommend and will be trying out the lunch menu.

“Lush”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 15, 2012

Delicious! Prawns for a starter - best I've ever had! Perfectly cooked and enjoyed them so much I was tempted to devour the tails...
Pad Thai - delicious!!!! A vegetarian twist on my fav thai classic and yet it still reminded me of my trip to Thailand with all of the classic underlying flavours.
Service, food and atmosphere amazing. Highly recommended for lunch or tea!

“Great food, more suited to a woman's appetite though!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 14, 2012

Nothing wrong with the food here, in fact the food is great, but don't come here if you are hungry and nead a hearty meal, if you want a snack before seeing some of the awesome acts downstairs then go for it, but given the range of eateries on or around Grey Street this should only be a choice if you want to be on an enforced diet, or you want a light bite. The service was acceptable, without being impressive, slightly abrupt, but it is a Comedy Cafe not a restaurant, bet they were having a right laugh! Really enjoyed the food, but very mean on the portions and not great value for money.

We're sorry to hear that although you really liked the food, that you left still feeling hungry, and equally that you weren't bowled over by the service. The Stand take these things very seriously, and aim to provide the best dining experience that we can, so if you wish to discuss this further please drop us a line at admin@thestand.co.uk and we'll see what we can do. Thanks for your feedback.
