a massive difference from the 80s that many people will remember there a massive buzz in the area now
the nearest station is Newcastle central/ Gateshead
my best advice is to go to Gateshead walk downwards (it harder walking up Gateshead hill then it is Newcastle hill) also u can catch a few buildings along the way starting with the new Gateshead town centre (currently not built 8/5/13) the Sage, Baltic, Millennium bridge (Time it right and u can see it tilt) then it a nicer stroll on the Newcastle side (plus bars *Cough Cough) court house to see the crooks get what they deserve :D or cute chavs if u like that thing, there a small workout area on a nice day u can pump a bit of iron. depending on whether u walk towards westwards Newcastle town u can check out the historic buildings leading upwards to town back to Central station (clearly signposted) or back along the river to various other buildings or eastwards to where there will be a new development (not yet confirmed) and some hidden Art gallery's
