“Not really a business hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed yesterday NEW

I stayed here on a Sunday evening ahead of a business meeting first thing the following morning on the Cobalt Business Park.

From a location perspective it was perfect. Easy to get to, close to where I needed to be and with a large free car park.

Being a Sunday night just a couple of weeks before Christmas there was a Christmas party in full swing when i arrived thus the lobby was full of drunk people in fancy dress. The young lad on the check in desk was clearly snowed under however check in was fine and he did point out my room would be at the other end of the hotel to the festivities.

I ate in the on site Italian restaurant which served pizza and pasta. The food was OK and the price was fine. I then retired to the bar (styled very much like a pub) to meet a colleague for a couple of drinks.

We did try sitting in the lobby area but it was full of families and kids running around making huge amounts of noise. On top of this lads from the party were sitting around in the lobby waiting for taxis and being rather loud in the process.

Even though the language was rather colourful and this was the main reception area of the hotel, the staff did not ask them to tone it down in any way.

My room was large however felt a bit bare and tired. I did however get a good nights sleep and for the money paid, I can't complain.

So this hotel is for families and leisure travellers and for that, it works well.

As a business traveller however this is not somewhere to chill at the end of a long day and is not the sort of place to meet up with business colleagues

Me and my partner have stayed here many times and would always rate the village a 10/10. The rooms are very clean and spacious, staff are polite and helpful and the food is lovely. Best place we've stayed in Newcastle by far.

We had a brilliant time and food was excellent in the Italian restaurant. Staff friendly and helpful. Only downsides really were tepid shower and spa not very luxurious as there were childrens swimming lessons taking place. Massage very good though.
Comfy beds and lovely breakfast though and we will definitely return.

Dear Vicki B,

Thank you for taking the time to write such a kind review about the hotel and its facilities.

It's pleasing to know that you found the staff to be really friendly, the meal in our Italian restaurant ‘excellent’ and your Spa treatment ‘brilliant’.

I have passed on your feedback regarding the shower in the Spa to the maintenance manager who has confirmed this is now up to temperature.

Thanks again and I look forward to welcoming you back again in the near future.

one night stay on business. Excellent welcome from the proffesional reception staff. Fast check in despite the queues. A bit of a treck to room 173. Up a floor in the lift then around the corridor and back down to the ground floor ( and there wasn't another route). The room was actually behind he ground floor restaurants.

However, the room was a typical village, large and comfortable. Good large bed, good sided bathroom and clean.

Check out was as efficient and proffesional.

The restaurants and bar let it down. Not every one wants to watch football!! and the food in the Italian was well below par, but then again it was in the blackpool village. So very consistent.

All in all not a bad place to stay during the week but for a weekend break you wouldn't want to be drinking or eating here and Newcastle is a fair old taxi ride. ( and the city hotels are just as reasonable).

Me and my partner stayed for two nights and everything was great.
We hadn't been in the area before so the staff were extremely helpful and told us where to go and what to see. We were told about a few local restaurants and pubs in which we had a perfect night out.
Thanks you all.
Jamie

We stayed here for one night as we had a family party in the conservatory of the in-house restaurant "Buca di Beppo".

Check in was incredibly swift, and the room was very comfortable with all the amenities you could expect - and everything worked! Nice modern décor without being too obtrusive, a number of overhead and sidelight options, desk area, chair, tea/coffee making facilities, flat screen TV with Sky Sports etc., plenty of power points. Pretty much all you could want, apart from a view Having stayed in other Village hotels before, I was a little surprised that it didn't have a trouser press, but as an ironing board and iron were present, no problem really. Heating was easily controlled and the window opened as well, which suited us ( fresh air fiends really). The bathroom was very clean, again everything worked well, and the complimentary shower gel and shampoo dispensers were full.

There is a "lively" bar with a god range of drinks, a coffee shop and lots of casual seating areas, some near Sky News or Sports screens so although the Village does not have the calm air of the traditional hotel, I would say that most tastes are catered for.

Breakfast was included in our rate, and this is excellent. We had to wait to be seated only a minute or two, and attentive waiting staff made sure we had all the tea and coffee we needed. There were lots of options from fruit salad, granola, yoghurt, croissants to the full English, and all seemed fresh. Good value and highly recommended.

Checkout was by 11:00, and we were right on this time. There was a bit of a queue, but we really had only a few minutes to wait (our own fault really) and again the staff were very courteous and efficient.

All in all a very pleasant stay in a modern style hotel. You would not want to stay a week, but for a night or two, excellent. Oh - and the family meal in the conservatory was great. The staff were excellent, made a fuss of the birthday boy and all came in to sing Happy Birthday! Thanks all!

Attended an awards function last night. First course was served then award ceremony took place which resulted in our finished plates lying in front of us for an hour. After awards the fish course came out which took forever to serve - we were on table 20 of 21 and it seemed to take at least 30 mins to get to us. The staff seemed extremely disorganised and it appeared from our point of view that a banquet manager was attempting to supervise them but seemed to create more confusion. Before the main course was served a young girl came along with a tray full of knives and forks and dropped one of each at each place on the table - no arranging of fork to the left and knife to the right just dumped in a pile in the middle - the main course consisted of extremely fatty lamb along with undercooked vegetables which were barely warm. The sweet course was rather nice then coffee was served some cups were served and placed on the right some served and place on the left - big faux pas. Considering this was an event attended by the Mayor of North Tyneside and some of the major business leaders in the area I don't believe the hotel did itself any favours.

Hi Ian B

Thanks for taking the time to write a review of Village Urban Resort Newcastle.

We appreciate any constructive feedback both positive and negative. Regarding the awards dinner I do think it's only fair to mention that due to the structure of the evening it was at the client's request that the first course was not cleared as they didn't want the awards disrupted. I do believe this was mentioned by the MC at the start of the evening.

The menu had been selected by the client including a freshly cooked fish dish again as this was served after the awards we served this allowing everyone time to get drinks with their meal providing table service throughout.

The food as again was mentioned was provided by local suppliers to showcase the North East so disappointing that you haven't enjoyed the lamb particularly when the client went to great trouble to source all local produce.

However we do thank you for your comments as it is only by our customers providing feedback either in person on the night or through email or trip advisor that we can adapt and rectify any issues.

Regards
