“Empty Plate...Full Tummy :)”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 30, 2012

Nice atmosphere & Fantastic Food

Loads of choice on the Menu & the Bar had a great selection of Ales.I was very happy to see the Ouseburn Coffee Sign which was just what was needed on a frosty day.
When the meals turned up they were good sized portions & so Yummy. We had Chicken Skewers & Northern Fried Chicken both very tasty.

Next time we visit we are leaving the car at home so we can try some Ales.

“A nice chilled out pub with excellent burgers”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2012 via mobile

This is a really nice pub with a friendly atmosphere. There are lots of unusual beers and you can get a "paddle" of 3 if you don't know which to choose. There are also board games to play and a doggy menu for your pooch. We have eaten here a few times and the food has always been really good. The burgers are big and juicy (I would recommend "the downfall of Fernando Torres" - a Spanish themed burger and "the Angry Susan" - a hot, spicy burger). The nachos are also really nice but the portion is massive so you'll need to share. It's sometimes difficult to get a seat though and a few times they have ran out of things on the menu.

“When will the manager read these reviews?”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed November 9, 2012

Look, this is the pub we love and hate. We have had some magical evenings here. But more than once I have come away saying, "Never again". The biggest problem is the atmosphere among the staff. Some of them are consistently delightful; others vary and at least one is a professional misery. It could be so good! However, to be told (with a sardonic smile) that it is too late to make a coffee or even to wave a tea bag at a cup in a pub with metropolitan aspirations is just not getting it...

“Overall - it's good”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2012 via mobile

I've been going to this pub on and off for the last 4 years but on a regular basis since the start if this year. A big plus point for me is that I can bring my dog there, so after being at work all day and fancying going to the pub I don't have to feel guilty about leaving her. I think a lot of dog owners are the same as there seems to be 'regular' dogs in there as well as people. They are served up a bowl of water on arrival and there is a doggy menu too, which is really great.

The drink choices are good but I think the wine is a little over priced for what it is. Can't really complain about that though as they brand themselves as a real ale pub not a wine bar.

The food is excellent. It's pub food but with a bit of a twist and to a high standard. However, it is often the case that there are several dishes not available. Had a bad experience recently where 6 of us ordered at once and there was about a 15 minute wait between the first and the last dish being served. There was also 3 side dishes missing. I spoke to staff about this though and a reduced price was given. I have never had such an experience when only 2 of us have been eating so maybe they struggled with the numbers a bit. Also the menu had just changed slightly.
Overall I will remain a regular at this pub. The pros outweigh the cons and its a decent local pub with a buzzy atmosphere.
