Owner description: At the Tyneside Cinema, we give a trip to the pictures the sense of occasion it deserves. We show the best films in stylish and beautiful surroundings, and our varied programme ranges from brilliant films from all over the world to the best Hollywood has to offer. As the last surviving Newsreel theatre still operating as a cinema full-time in the UK, our Grade II-listed building is an important, must-see piece of heritage, not just regionally, but nationally too and it has been lovingly restored to preserve and celebrate the grandeur of its original 1937 art deco design.

“The best cinema experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 27, 2013

This is cinema at its stylish, civilised best. The venue, bars, comfortable seating, make this a genuine pleasure. Far from the mass market, high volume experiences of some of the UKs larger cinema chains, The Tyneside is our first choice for every cinema release.

“Excellent especially the grand circle”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 26, 2013

Have visited the cinema recently and booked seats in the grand circle. Great setting and I couldn't believe you can buy wine & beer to drink at your seat (the seats even come with a wine cooler!). No nachos either they do a variety of nuts and even olives to eat at your seat. Tried the café/restaurant and the service is excellent with a nice variety of food (I can recommend the sharing platters). The café downstairs and outside is also excellent. On top of all this they also show a great selection of European films and classics. No surprise this is at #1 in Newcastle. Congratulations to all involved.

“Excellent independent”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 21, 2013

I am so proud to have his facility in Newcastle and would recommend it to anyone. The upper circle has a drinks licence so you can have a tipple while watching your film. Very civilised.

“Went to see 'from up on poppy hill'”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 15, 2013

The cinema is a little bit hidden, i personally feel. So after not finding it the first time we were in Newcastle, we made sure to find it the second time round! Not being from Newcastle and having a few questions i had to ring the cinema for times and viewings etc. These people were more than friendly! Once your in, it was straight to the desk and up the viewing! Only downside is we were on floor 4 and when i needed the toilet (in the middle of the film, worst timing ever!) i had to run down a floor to use the toilets. Other than that everything was ace and will deffo travel back to see other films!

“This is more than just a trip to the cinema.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 15, 2013

The whole venue has character and is a very interesting place and the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. The coffee shop is also well worth a visit and reasonable. The actual cinema is very comfortable and the added bonus is that you can take a drink from the bar into the cinema. The whole experience makes you feel that is more than just a visit to the cinema. It is definitely my favourite.
