Owner description: At the Tyneside Cinema, we give a trip to the pictures the sense of occasion it deserves. We show the best films in stylish and beautiful surroundings, and our varied programme ranges from brilliant films from all over the world to the best Hollywood has to offer. As the last surviving Newsreel theatre still operating as a cinema full-time in the UK, our Grade II-listed building is an important, must-see piece of heritage, not just regionally, but nationally too and it has been lovingly restored to preserve and celebrate the grandeur of its original 1937 art deco design.

“The best place for movie-lovers”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 31, 2013

I love the selection of movies the tyneside cinema play.
They also stock a great bar - strawberry and lime Rekorderlig is my favorite.
I went to see Les Mis with my boyfriend and we paid extra to sit upstairs on the sofa's. It was so comfortable.
It is more pricey than the chain cinema's - but I'll happily pay more to go somewhere where people don't talk through the movie or play on their phones.
The staff are lovely too!

“Great Cinema Experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 27, 2013

We recently went here to see Django, in the past we have always picked Tyneside over Empire because it is a great cinema. The most recent time I've been is January (2013) but I've been coming here for as long as I can remember. They show a range of films from new in cinema films (Dark Knight Rises as an example) as well as cultural and foreign films. They also do kids films and cult classics, and to see films like that in a cinema is wonderful (I've seen a bunch of Christmas films like Muppets Christmas Carol, Gremlins and Elf here and it much better sharing the experience rather than watching them at home)

Helpful staff and a great cinema experience. I've been in every cinema room they have now, all of which are fantastic, not a single problem with any (and that is including when they show films at the bar on Free Film Nights - go to these if you get the chance. It's a real treat). Another nice little treat is getting served alcohol in the cinema. And the type of people who go to this cinema are respectful so you never get disturbed during the film.

I always pick Tyneside over Empire if I can (because it's small they can't keep big films on for months like other cinemas but they do have them on for a good length of time so you can't miss them). Highly recommended as it always has great shows, and great events.
