“What's gone wrong with the North East's seaside jewel?”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2013

By the way...I LIVE HERE!...well in a pretty fishing village less than a mile away from the centre!
That said i can only add my thoughts and frustrations about why Whitley Bay has gone so BAD!
But thats not fair this is a travel site not a complaint forum to council, planners, police etc
Yes the coastline is magnificent, the outlying villages picturesque, the choice of accomodation vast,(i would not stay in 90% of them tho)However the short hop to Northumberland and borders might be useful if your passing through?
I would'nt venture into the town at night,it's tatty, rough and run down, poor restuarants and 75% of the nightlife is closed along with many of the shops and B&B's that supported the Stag&Hen parties, some say good ridance others say it kept the town alive!
As a Trip Advisor contributor it pains me to advise people not to visit a town in my area however try Tynemouth 2 miles south down the coast,it's like being in a different Country to the DUMP otherwise known as Whitley Bay!

“Smokey Rockcliffe Arms”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 20, 2013

Sitting in the usually super bar was like being back in the bad old days when smoking in public buildings was allowed. Both doorways are used by thoughtless smokers with the result that their filth is circulating quite freely indoors. This practice is illegal and the management need to address the issue before it's reported.

“Sun, sea & sand”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 11, 2013

Plenty of car parking space & the beach was nice and sandy with very few pebbles.
4 children and 4 adults enjoyed playing on the beach and paddling in the clear clean water.
The area was very clean and tidy.
