“Underated little gem”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 15, 2013

Very cheap entry, 4 quid for adults, kids are free. It looks boring from the outside, don't be put off. It's a maze of staircases, rooms, dungeons, gallery's and great fun for kids to roam all over. It almost feels like it shouldn't be allowed to be open, and that this much fun was banned everywhere else by the health and safety brigade decades ago. Then you reach the roof, and my word, what amazing views. HIghly recomended family fun.

“A nice little keep”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 10, 2013

Hadn't visitied the keep for about 20 years, and enjoyed taking the kids to explore. Lots of stairs and little hidden nooks to find. They spent most of the time searching for the dragons as part of the Easter hunt. I felt a little more could be done of the displays, many of which seemed the same as they were 20 years ago. More activities for the kids would also be great.

“Another piece of history”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 25, 2013

Worth a visit. Combine it with a visit to the St. Nicholas Cathedral and the Castle. It is actually located a few meters from the Castle. Unfortunately we didn't visit the museum inside. It is part of Newcastle's old history, so worth a visit.

“Only saw it from the outside, worth a visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 25, 2013

We've seen the castle only from the outside. We had no time to go inside. Some other tourists came out of the castle. We asked if it was good. They said there were only a bunch empty chambers. It didn't sound good. But again, I don't know. From the outside it was a good looking castle, I think it is worth a visit anyways.

“Best attracts in Newcastle”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 22, 2013

It doesn't look like much form the outside, it was snowing, there was a school party arriving, it cost four quid each to get in, the man on the desk was miserable....but, my goodness, was it all worth it. I like castles and this is a cracker. Initially I was irritated by not knowing which was to go but actually the exploration made it all the more fun...up that stair, round that corner, behind that pillar. In each room there was a big notice on the wall telling you all about it (it was started in 1080 to replace the old castle sn is the reason the city is called Newcastle!). Apart from the information there was very little in each room so you could really see the bones of the place and peer over the parapet of the roof, or through the arrow slits. It was great. Highly recommended!
