“Wonderful weekend”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 16, 2014

Stayed here for two nights, as I was at a wedding there on the Saturday.breakfast was amazing, very good, clean rooms and decent size bathroom with a bath, lovely fluffy white towels.the only draw back being we like to sleep with our windows open but unfortunately the windows didn't open very much so we were very hot. Very large bed, very comfortable and good pillows. As the wedding reception was held in the hotel, the wedding breakfast was superb as was the evening buffet, would highly recommend .

Room Tip: Don't think they are better at the front of the hotel or the back

Thank you so much for your kind comments and I am pleased you enjoyed your time with us.
The windows unfortunately need to have restrictors on them for health and safety reasons but if you had asked reception they would have brought a fan up to the room for you.

Thank you again and we hope to see you again in the future.

Kind regards
Joy

Very nice and helpful staff. I got an upgrade, so my room was very nice. It was a very warm time when I arrived and the room did not have aircondition, and only a small window that was couln't be opened much. Otherwise the room and hotel was nice.

The breakfast was OK, you can choose from continental or english. The continental was OK, but I would have wanted a little more options to choose from. If you have the time I would probably recommend trying the breakfast at a local pub or restaurant in the neighbourhood instead.

The neighbourhood is very quiet and idyllic - very english countryside. If you plan on going into Newcastle centre, you would have to take a taxi. The metro shopping centre is about 30 minutes walk away (I walked down there), with a steep hill you will have to "climb" on your way back (which probably is no good after a long shopping day).

Great choice for a short, relaxing, english countryside holiday and for stayover on business.

I found all the staff very friendly and welcoming, which to me is very important. My room (408) was clean and modern. The only problem I had, was their internet is not very good. I could not receive the internet in my room. I could only receive it if I sat in reception. Food was very good with generous portions. Very good bar staff as well. All in all, a good place to stay if you're not dependant on the internet.

I apologise for the problems you experienced with the internet connection. We have had our IT team check out all of the connections and it does appear to be running fine at this end. We cannot yet get a fibre optic connection in this area and do sometimes experience a lesser service because of this. Once again please accept out apologies and we do hope you will stay with us again when next in the area.

Kind regards

3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 5, 2014 via mobile

Room was of a good size but really dark and needs updating. The bed was huge but not very comfortable and the bed linen was cheap - cotton/ polyester mix and the pillows were like bags of bricks. The room was very clean however.

We ordered room service which arrived in good time but found the food very disappointing in quality. Huge portions but was really tasteless. I ordered the calamari as a starter and scampi as the main and hubby had potato skins as a start (it was more like really spicy sliced potato and was soggy and an odd colour) and fish and chips as the main. Again very bland but huge portions. The bakewell tart for dessert was fine. The staff who brought the food to our room were polite and courteous.

The room has no air conditioner so it was very stuffy and the window is small so didn't make any difference when I opened it.

The bathroom was exceptionally clean and well presented with no clanking pipes or dripping taps.

In the morning we took breakfasts which offered the usual expected fare plus a couple of extras not usually found in hotels of this calibre - kippers and smoked haddock, which is a nice change. I am a vegetarian and I was very satisfied. Staff were helpful and courteous.

When we were checking out, there was a discrepancy on our bill - it was wrongly itemised. As we have to present this bill as "expenses" that was a bit niggley but was rectified quickly although we had to wait quite a while for service at the reception as there was only one member of staff on duty it seemed.

Parking is free and plentiful.
A nice quiet hotel in a good location.

Thank you for taking the time to review the hotel. I am sorry that you were disappointed with your room and the quality of food. I will speak to the chef regarding the food as we normally receive good reviews on our food service. The room and the hotel were refurbished 18 months ago with new furniture, bathrooms etc so it is disappointing that you found it unsatisfactory. I will check the room this morning for any signs of wear and tear. The rooms do not have Air con but we do have fans available from reception.

Thank you for your kind comments regarding our staff and breakfast choices. I do hope you will consider us again for your accommodation requirements when next in the area.

Kind Regards
Joy

We stop in this hotel for 2 nights. Staff is really helpful and nice. Hotel is clean, bed really big and comfy. From this hotel is really good bus connection to Newcastle centre. The quality of the breakfast maybe is not the highest, but you can find something to make you full in the morning.

We thoroughly enjoyed our weekend stay, the room was as advertised and clean to perfection. Bed was extremely comfortable with quality bedding and toiletries. Restraunt food including breakfast was extremely good with a special mention to Paco for a delightful evening meal. we aim to return in the very near future. A credit to all of the staff for making our stay a perfect weekend.
