Having spent a good 10-15mins trying to find the hotel we eventually realised this was under full scaffolding and on a double yellow line & therefore could not stop. We found a space further in the town in which to call the hotel & were advised by a friendly receptionist to just park up on the pavement beside the scaffolding & come in for a pass to allow us to park across the street. Not only was this dangerous but totally illegal & could have resulted in a ticket. Luckily for us I was able to go leaving my husband in the car in case the police arrived. Then did I find the reception was on the first floor so was away from the car 10 mins. Not great if you are a lone driver. There was a smell of damp but not too bad and as the receptionist was so friendly said nothing. When we arrived in the room we were so disappointed. It was so dull & dingy it reminded me of a prison cell. A damp patch on the ceiling with paper starting to come off, very chipped paint on the skirtings & so stuffy. The original windows were stuck shut & if you opened the secondary glazing fitten you could then not use the wardrobe or bedside table as they hit off both as there was no room so make your choice! The room felt so hot we used an app on the phone to record it... 85 degrees! We found a rickety old cooler fan which we turned on & left on 3pm until we left the hotel the following morning about 10 & still the room was too hot. All it was doing was circulating stale air. On a positive note the bed linen seemed clean as did the bathroom but as it was so small with a half sized bath which was a joke. The TV also worked but the room furniture was dreadful & looked like something left over from an office flitting. With the toilet being so near the wall & loo roll holder just above I kept knocking it off when trying to use the loo & at one point the whole roll fell into the loo. I decised to leavce it sitting on the ledge & nearly took my shoulder out when I sat on the loo the next time as the holder jabbed right into me. There was no one at reception again until we left so couldn't raise any issues. The breakfast was ok but served on chipped crockery. The best of all was the fact that you had to keep the curtains shut most of the time during working hours as there was a stream of work men walking past the window constantly. In a room af this temp not good at all. feel we are being conned as these rooms are being sold as good deals. This is not the case at all. If you get a good quality room at a reduced price due to late booking this is a deal, not a substandard room at supposed reduced cost. I think the room was worth no more that about £25 & that was only because thw TV worked & the bed & bath were clean. This is probably the worst hoteal I have stayed in & will never return. Luckily we were moving on the next day. I do feel that Late deals should check & monitor hotels registered with them for quality & cost as this was very misleading. I plan to contact them. I would say STAY AWAY not worth £49.95 a big con!!! Sorry for the long review but forewarned is forearmed.
