“Decent hotel, pity about the cheap mattress”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 14, 2013

I've just spent two nights at this Marriott, it's in a dated building with hideous early 70s architecture but once inside it is stylish and well maintained. The staff are very helpful; the first room we were allocated on the third floor overlooked the kitchen and was akin to being accommodated above a KFC, the room smelled like a Deep Fat Fryer and we asked to move. The receptionist was really helpful and within no time we were moved to room 411 at the rear of the hotel, which was quiet, well away from the kitchens and had a better view. The big disappointment was the bed, or to be more precise the mattress, it was really poor quality, far too springy and gave no back support; they must have purchased it from the bed store equivalent of Poundland. I tried to ask the (Eastern European) maid if all the rooms had the same type of mattress but she misunderstood and just said that all the beds were doubles or singles! As we were only staying for two nights and had already been moved, we did not make a big deal about it. That aside the room was well appointed and the hotel had good facilities. The hot and cold breakfast buffet had a wide choice from full English to continental with cold meats, fresh fruit, pastries, etc and four choices of juice. The sausages and bacon were really good but the Black Pudding was very dry. The chef also prepares fresh omelettes to order and their poached eggs were cooked perfectly. Luckily we were on a B&B rate; otherwise the breakfast costs £15.95 per person, which is a bit much. We went for a walk through the grounds to the rear of the hotel, which were lightly wooded and were pleasantly surprised to see four deer within 50 metres of the hotel, the woodland path then leads to wide open fields. The hotel is in a fairly isolated location with only a petrol station and a McDonalds nearby; it is a good 15 minutes to Newcastle though Gosforth is obviously much closer and has a good selection of bars and some decent eateries. We attended a charity function on the Saturday night; our reason for staying in the hotel and the staff again were very helpful and friendly. If I return for the function next year I would probably stay in the hotel again but would check the mattress quality before accepting the room.

Room Tip: Make sure you do not get a room located above the kitchens and check the quality of the mattress in...

We've stayed at the Gosforth Park Marriott 4 or 5 times over the past few years. Always very clean and tidy. The front desk, pub, and restaurant staff are great. They're always helpful. The full English Breakfast is the restaurant was outstanding... Everything was hot that was supposed to be hot and likewise with the chilled offerings. The pub had a good Cobb salad and drinks were reasonable for a hotel. Taxis are readily available for ventures into Newcastle city center. Never had to wait more than five minutes. Wedding receptions at the hotel are an added entertainment option for free! Plenty of free on-site parking if you have a vehicle.

Room Tip: Lower floor until the new elevators (lifts) are installed.

We stay at this hotel quite often, this time needing to complete a lot of legal paperwork, which the reception and management staff assisted with their usual 'can do' approach, receiving and printing out documents for me, without charge and providing witness signatures. I could not ask for better service.
I always find this hotel wanting to support their guests and this time they have not only installed free high speed WiFi access in reception and the bar areas, but have also replaced the one and only real issue that I personally have with this hotel, dreadful coffee! They now use a well known US brand ! As strong as you like and full of flavour. An excellent choice, in my opinion, and in a great location.

Stayed here for a night room was clean & tidy beds very comfortable but is just average!

Has the usual facilities ie:tea, coffee, bathroom extras but I didn't think there was anything that set this hotel part from other hotels! For the price as well think there are other hotels that have more to offer for same cost.
If your in the area & want a room for the night comfy & clean stay here if looking for something bit more classy and up market with more extras for same cost look else where!

I stay here once every year as I am from Newcastle and travel home to see the family. The Gosforth Park hotel always has a friendly welcome and even when i am on my own i feel safe and secure. The receptionists all seem to know that on Friday morning I will require a taxi to the Metro centre and they invariably have people ready to take my bags to my room when I return from shopping!

The rooms are always clean and tidy and I have stayed in standard rooms, deluxe rooms and last time in a suite. The standard is constant throughout - the more expensive rooms are larger but the cheaper rooms are fine and the beds are great.

I usually stay during the last weekend in June when there is racing on and the family have a dinner in the restaurant. Despite the bar and lounge being exceptionally busy the restaurant is calm and sophisticated and the staff very accommodating and welcoming. The service speed is fine for us as we like to take our time over dinner and catch up on the news, so if you are expecting fast food you will be disappointed. The food is always beautifully cooked and special diets can be catered for.

I can honestly say I have never had a bad stay there in 20 years!!!

I have stayed in many Marriott Hotels before and sorry, but there's nothing special about this one. Location isn't great, leasure facilities OK and ambience a little dated. But it's clean and it's a Marriott - not a lot else to say!

Room Tip: Ask to overlook woods.

I have stayed at the Marriott on many occasions. The hotel has lovely leisure facilities and a nice bar area and reasonable lunch menu, the hotel has a very relaxed feel. The rooms are clean and very comfortable. The hotel is a few minutes by taxi away from Newcastle Town Centre (approx £10 by taxi).

The hotel has many conference & Banqueting suites at very reasonable rates.

I will be back. x
