“Enjoyable stay for the price.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 21, 2013

Spent a Sunday night here with my girlfriend as we off to see a concert at the Arena.
The location is great...walking distance to the Arena and a room overlooking the Tyne (4th floor).
Received a friendly reception and were able to check in at 2pm (normally 4pm on a weekend).
The room was spacious with great views of the Tyne and bridges and forget some of the reviews on here about the beds...ours was huge and comfortable.
Yes, the decor was a little dated and a TV from the 80s but I didnt come away to spend all night in my room watching TV ! ( I do believe all rooms will have flat screen tvs soon).
Bathroom was clean and nice powerful shower.
Cant comment on the food as we had room only for £65 which is good value for the centre of Newcastle.
Couple of moans...asked room service for some ice and were gonna charge £3.00...decided to pop downstairs and a pleasant barman gave us a bucket of ice for free.
Bought a couple of drinks at the hotel bar and went to sit outside and wasnt impressed. Cheap tables and chairs, fag ends everywhere and one guest had to get a cloth from inside to wipe his own table down.
Used the pool in the morning for a quick dip and a steam (sauna wasnt working) oh and its £5 to park you're car !
On the whole though an enjoyable stay and would return.

Many thanks for your great review. I'm delighted that you enjoyed your recent stay with us, with particular regard to the hotel location, standard of guest service, bedroom spaciousness, quality of beds (all 156 bedrooms have brand new beds), and the standard of cleanliness. New flatscreen TV's go into all 156 bedrooms in June. Constructive points duly noted for review with my team. I hope we will have the pleasure of welcoming you back again soon.

The Copthorne in Newcastle has a great location on the quayside of the River Tyne, our room had a fantastic view of all of the bridges and we were able to sit in the balcony style window and watch the river flow by.
Quayside pubs are minutes away and should you be going to the Metro Radio Arena it is less than a 10 minute walk. Car-parking is easy ......... So what is the hitch .........
The hotel was full on the night we stayed, but there was only one lift in service, this looked to be a long term problem. We would have happily used stairs but they were difficult to find. The decor and furniture in the room looked past its best and the soundproofing is poor. However you don't go to Newcastle to sit in your hotel room all day.
Basically the positives out score the negatives

Room Tip: Ask for a River view

Thank you for your constructive review following your recent stay with us. I'm glad that you enjoyed your stay overall. The hotel is in the midst of an extensive period of refurbishment, which has included the full upgrading of both guest lifts (a large project which is now completed). I hope we will have the pleasure of welcoming you back again soon.

Stayed here for one night , we booked a club room with breakfast ,what a dissapointment , the hotel has a kind empty feel about it. The room was clean enough but very tired and shabby , at breakfast the dining room felt like empty conference room , the staff where weren't great..the breakfast was vile.. we left it and asked reception where the nearest McDonalds was , bad day when that's a better alternitive to what was on offer , the sauna and steam room was out of order , there was only one lift working, on checkout told reception the breakfast was rotten only to be told its usually ok
Won't be back here there are far better hotels in Newcastle ...

the hotel is an older one and therefore not bright and shiny new by a long chalk. But certainly we
enjoyed our stay here. Our room facing the tyne was very big,the bed was very comfortable and
apparently quite new.
The bathroom was a nice size but dated, but certainly the shower was adequate and everything
worked.
The food was hot and plentiful and really very nice, although we were with a business party and
had a set menu,it was a lot better than other places we have been.
Breakfast was help yourself affair, full english, fruit, yogurt, pastries, etc etc Coffee and tea served
at the table was very good.
Only five minutes walk into the pub and bar areas,so ideal for getting about.
The staff were spot on with everything that was required,so all in all an enjoyable two nights stay and i would be happy to return.

My husband and Ai stayed for one night for my birthday. We paid for dinner for 2 and breakfast when we booked the room on Millennium Hotels website. Dinner was fantastic. We both had 3 courses. The food was out of this world! The next day we ordered breakfast in bed. There was a small surcharge for room service, but well worth it to finish off our night away! The room over looked the River Tyne, it was a fantastic view. You can hear the trains going over the bridge, but it's not a noise that bothered us. The staff were very helpful, especially the restaurant staff. We would definitely stay again, and recommend this hotel. Oh and residents can use the gym and swimming pool!

Room Tip: Ask for a room that over looks the Tyne, nice view

Checked out today 20.05.13 after spending a night at this hotel, which I booked for me and my boyfriend 2months ago.we had tickets for Newcastle arena on the Sunday night to watch Alicia keys, thought if I cud pick up a hotel quite central at a reasonable price it would save on taxi fair(even though we only live 15min drive away)got this hotel for£63 for the two of us!!bargin!!was cheaper than a premier inn!!didnt include breakfast though..I could have added but it was far cheaper to eat nxt door at a weatherspoons, called loyds bar which is lovely,do nice food, cheap drinks, can sit outside with views of the Tyne..the hotel was very nice, private multi story carpark facilities at only 5pounds,check in on a Sunday was at 4pm but we arrived at 2pm was a little early but was surprised our room was ready, excellent.room was on 4th floor and we was most happy with our room, views of the river Tyne, the room was very big,big double bed, lovely, clean and bright, bathroom lovely, shower was excellent very powerful..I think they are in the process of modernising some rooms ie, the t.v.s..check out wasn't until 12pm which was great as after a late night we didnt feel the need to get up early n rush off!!we used some of the lesuire facilities ie the pool and steam, alittle small but nice and clean with views again of the Tyne, they have a gym but didnt use it.they let u use these facilities after checking out time which was great.overall this hotel the price we got it for was great, very central, lovely hotel.definitely recommend it.

We booken in to the Copthorne as we were on a Theatre trip. It's more a conference hotel but with a room on the 5th floor the views were wonderful. The staff were also friendly and helpful. At just over £100 a night for the two of us for a city centre hotel this was really good value for money. It's clear the hotel is undergoing some improvements but the room and public areas were clean and well kept. The breakfast was great value for money and lovely, well cooked food with tons of choice. Spa and pool downstairs too. Will definately book in here when we are next in Newcastle.

Room Tip: Book the 5th floor looking out on to the Tyne. 3 huge windows to see the town at night and the buil...
