“Overall standard good...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 17, 2013

When booking this hotel people stated that it was a 10/15 minute walk from the metrocentre unfortunately this s not the case. It is in fact 30 minutes and you have to negotiate across 3 roundabouts and a dual carriageway.. Other than that the hotel was lovely and clean, the staff generally nice and all in all good value for money.. The free breakfast was adequate with a good range of food available..A special mention to the local taxi firm who were not only friendly and helpful but reasonably priced too...

Thank you for taking the time to post a review, your comments are appreciated. From the route you have described in your review it sounds as if you took the main roads to the Metro centre which can be quite difficult to negotiate when the roads are busy. There is a quieter walk which takes you along the riverbank and takes 15 minutes at the most to walk. I am unsure where you received your directions but please accept our apologies if this is what was advised by our front desk. We do always try to advise the river walk and are happy to give guest a map which points out exactly how to get onto the quicker route.

stayed here on our way up to Northumberland on holiday rooms like all other holiday inns clean comfortable and resonably priced for two adults and our westie free. breakfast was good and the dining area was cleared of all plates ect.The staff where very helpful its an ideal stopover as you have Tji Fridays, Frankie and Benie,s,and other fast food outlets on site plus the Skiff pub which served meals and good beer with outdoor seating. You can walk along the banks of the River Tyne which flows behind the hotel. Must be popular as when we stayed there was a coach full of chinees on there tour of the uk,would use again as its ideal distance between home and where we where staying plus easy access of the A1M and across from the Metro centre.

Room Tip: high room but not facing the rear due to the railway but this did not bother us

An honest review, the hotel is very dirty the carpets in the rooms with heavy stains, walls are needing painted, shower curtains are extremly dirty and the beds are sagging and worn out. We changed rooms twice in order to get a clean one. The only reason it gets 2 stars from me is that the staff were very helpful.

Thank you for your feedback I have tried to trace your booking to ascertain which room you were assigned but am unable to track it. Comments regarding the hotels cleanliness are very rare and I would appreciate it if you could contact the hotel on 01207 541100 so that I can investigate further.

Thank you for taking the time to post a review, guest comments are always welcome. Our bar prices are based on comparable hotel bar prices in the area. We review these regularly to ensure that we are not overpriced compared to our fellow hotels. We offer an express start breakfast which includes three hot items sausage, beans and scrambled egg. Once again many thanks for your feedback.

hotel is a bit rough. when we arrived for a lads weekend we were told that they had no drinks behind the bar and that we had to drive to asda to buy some which is shocking coming from a large chain hotel.
we arrived in the hotel room to find stains up on the bathroom wall and a horrible smell of smoke in our rooms.
there was a real bad smell in the hotel for some reason.
if your looking for just a bed you could find a better spot cause the bar was not stocked.

Good value for money . Clean and comfortable hotel. Helpful staff .On the saturday we did move rooms as we were by a rowdy group of lads only to move to a room by a rowdy group of girls we did not get any sleep at all that night. So I would not recommend this hotel on a Saturday night unless you are partaking in the night life. We stayed on the Sunday evening and that was fine. Not a pretty location but a very good location for the Metro shopping centre and good location to get to the centre of Newcastle by car. Plenty of pubs and restaurants near by to eat. The free breakfast was adequate with a choice of continental and beans scrambled eggs and sausages. The only problem being they kept running out of all the items even the basics like bread but on asking a member of staff the items were replenished.

Thank you for your recent review. I was disappointed to hear that you were disturbed during the Saturday night that you stayed, please accept our sincerest apologies. Thank you for your comments regarding the breakfast we do strive to replenish our items as quickly as possible and we appreciate your understanding that in a high volume situation, it does take a few minutes to cook and restock the buffet food. Once again many thanks for your feedback it is most appreciated.

Holiday inn express at the metro centre is ideal as a shopping trip. The room was nice and clean and the reception staff were excellent. The free breakfast was basic but the 3 hot options were cold. We did enjoy our stay there. It is approx £10.00 for a taxi into Newcastle city centre or there is a bus stop across from the hotel. Ask for a quiet room, we heard nothing all night.

Room Tip: If you go at the weekend ask for a quiet room
