when visiting Newcastle, I looked up two vegetarian eateries (I'm not vegetarian but always seek them out in other cities), and found two well reviewed places both in the Heaton area. Went to Sky Apple in the evening - which was wonderful, and tried Jack sprats following day for lunch.
The staff are super friendly and the food delicious. It isn't somewhere to go to impress a first date - the interior is a bit like the sitting room of a large home full of children. There are big, comfortable if not attractive sofas all over the place, and the extremely good natured woman serving invited my friend and I to lie down on one if we felt like it
I chose a vegan mince tart (sweet mince meat) rather than the rather good looking Victoria sponge. She very kindly provided both, offering the sponge 'on the house'. Both were absolutely delicious. I also had a superb breakfast. Too much to eat and all of it really satisfying and tasty.
The coffee was very good too. The interior looks a bit haphazard, but that certainly adds to its quirkiness, and the atmosphere is so convivial. I thought prices were excellent and would certainly go back. A real find.
