“Lovely Cream Tea!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 22, 2011

Myself and three friends “treated” ourselves to a brilliant Group-On deal for a cream tea for two for £7, which turned out to be an absolute bargain. When we arrived (via the metro so no worries about parking!) we were all very impressed with the dining room. The service was very, very good and the cream tea itself very enjoyable. We didn’t get a choice of cake but what we were given was delicious. We were given a choice of scone (cheese or fruit) and they all tasted lovely and - a real bonus - we were given a tea pot that actually poured tea without spilling any!!! We would all be happy to visit again.

I took my elderly Mother In Law for afternoon tea to the Town House and we loved it
She is 86 so it is difficult to find something she enjoys but this fit the bill totaly
We had a lovely sandwich selection followed by a cheese scone and then a very large slice of parsnip cake which had to taken home for later as no room left - the owner happy to provide a bag for us
The owner and her staff we found to be very obliging indeed and nothing was too much trouble
We could have just booked a room and stayed there and then it is such a lovely place
This is the first time I have ever written I review but feel it worthy of my time as it is so lovely and also I get fed up with all the "medioca" places we have around here, that is such a treat to come accross The Town House which we found outstanding and will certainly be back.

Thanks for making my 86 year old Mother In Laws BIrthday treat special.

We booked this hotel due to its proximity to Newcastle Racecourse. Cute little boutique hotel just off Gosforth High Street. We stayed in a standard room. When I rang to book they gave us room 6 which I was told is the most spacious of all the standard rooms - the room is actaully tiny which makes me wonder just how small the others are! The smallness of the room wasn't a problem as we were only staying one night however if you were to stay a longer it could be an issue. The room was decorated lovely, had a soft cloud-like big bed and a fantastic bathroom.

We enjoyed our stay.

We stayed here for one night. The room was clean and comfortable and very modern. The only problem was that we were at the top of the hotel and had to drag huge suitcases up 3 flights of steps. The breakfast was good. It was not a "friendly" B&B with a personal touch, but was professional. Parking may be a problem as they had no permits available - luckily we left early.

We went to this hotel today for Afternoon Tea, using our Groupon voucher. On arrival we were not greeted very friendly, asked to come around the counter to choose our cake (and we weren't even offered all the cakes on show!) Then pointed to a table where we could go (I think table set aside for 'pesky' groupon customers!

I ordered a herbal tea and was told I would have to pay extra for it. Our drinks and food arrived in dribs and drabs.

My main complaint was the head waitress seemed very rude, she stomped up and down looking really rushed and harressed and made us feel very uncomfortable. Some other Groupon customers arrived and after they sat down were told to move to a different table - the waitress shouted this across the room, and it was very embarrassing!

I was slightly disappointed at the quantity of sandwiches - just 3 small fingers, and the pots of butter, jam and cream were tiny!

All-in-all after looking forward to this trip out for quite some time, we were made to feel a bit worthless, if companies want to promote their business by offering Groupon to get people through the door hoping that they might come back another time - it certainly hasn't worked this time!!!

Also, to mention that we tried to book last weekend to go, but were told on the telephone that we had to book in advance (with a groupon) - this is not mentioned on the groupon voucher.

Beautifully converted Victorian townhouse with 10 rooms in a quiet location 50 yards off Gosforth High Street and all it's facilities. The most comfortable bed ever in any hotel. Comprehensive room facilities. Clean and modern. 'Sumptuous' room only had a shower. Excellent, unhurried breakfast. Honesty bar.
