“Great food, good service.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 11, 2013

On entering the cocktail bar area, friendly, attentive staff..very nice apart from a few pretentious types blocking access to the bar. I was surprised that they did not serve dry sherry in the bar especially as it boasts a good wine list and the fact that sherry is becoming an increasingly popular drink..

The menu had a broad range of choices to suit any palate. The food came out very quickly and if anything a bit too quickly. The food was very good, I can’t fault it, however, we ordered a few side dishes between us and when our meals came out there were far too many side dishes for the four of us. My only criticism with the meal would have been that the member of staff taking our orders could have stated that we had ordered a lot of food and perhaps not to have ordered as many sides. Bistro du vin really doesn't have the feel of a chain restaurant and can compete with some of the better restaurants in town and is infinitely better than somewhere like Browns, which is dreadful.

“Disappointing market table”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 1, 2013

After sampling an excellent Sunday Brunch at Hotel du Vin down South we decided to visit the Newcastle establishment with our family. Six of us arrived for our table at 2.15pm and when it was time for us to sample the market table we were told they had ran out of oysters and prawns which we found very disappointing.
On the plus side the staff were very accommodating and the customer service from 2 young waitresses was excellent. The restaurant was very busy and had a lovely atmosphere it was just a shame that the market table did not live up to what we had told our family.

Hi there,

Thank you for taking the time to comment. I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed the service from our staff.

We buy in close to 200 oysters for every Sunday Brunch which the majority of the time is sufficient for all our guests, im very sorry this wasn't the case on your last visit.

Warm regards,

Rob Tait

“Great brunch, loved the market table”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2013

Visited with family for a birthday lunch. We had soup, followed market table with seafood and charcuterie including oysters then a traditional roast or steak frites (other choices available) Good choice of desserts and an excellent cheeseboard finished it off nicely. The wine selection was good, if a little overpriced. W e were very impressed with the Sunday brunch menu, and I suspect we will be back soon. Good atmosphere and good service, although bill was a little steep mainly due to aperitifs, ports with the cheeses and irish coffees.

“EXCELLENT SUNDAY BRUNCH”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 20, 2013 via mobile

Attended this restaurant with my husband for Sunday Brunch and were not disappointed.
The selection of food was very good. 4 Courses for £22.95. Soup, to start, cold assortment of quality starters/salads, crab, prawns, oysters antipasti,pâté etc. Hot Main course with a monster of a Yorkshire pudding. Followed by a good assortment of sweets.

Staff were pleasant and attentive. Good busy atmosphere.
Will definitely return again.

“Very disappionting”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2013 via mobile

We visited with a group of friends on Saturday night and were delighted with our table and the choice of food.

Our enthusiasm however was short lived. Service was slow although when our starters did arrive mine was very good although others in the party were disappointed.

Three of the party ordered seafood mixed grill which was served on a wooden platter. When the waiter asked if everything was ok we said no the food was cold and my ling was under cooked so it was left. The waiter said he would pass our comments to the manager.

We then came to order a fourth bottle of wine and we were told they had none of the same brand left which I find staggering for a hotel which allegedly specialises in wine!

Instead we were offered a bottle of wine which was £8 more than our original bottle. I was staggered that given we were a group of 6 all drinking white that we were not informed of the limited stock when ordering.

As a party we found
The experience frustrating. Throughout the entire evening despite our comments being reported to the manager there was no attempt by the manager to enter into discussions. Again from a customer service perspective the manager could have redeemed the situation with an apology or acknowledgement.

Readers can possibly imagine our frustration when the bill arrived with almost £40 service charge which of course we refused to pay.

My advice, go to Marco Pierre White, similar price with better food and excellent customer service !
