The place was packed and some tables were turned over 3 times, but the experience was not all good. Service was poor, we ordered two bottles of wine, but the staff just opened them, too busy to pour even a drop, but they wanted there service on the wine, you bet they did !! And then there the two starter surcharge. No one charges that, come on !! The tacky fairey lights and the cheapo chairs. The food was not great and was actually quite expensive. Plenty not to like but the place was packed, what am i missing ?????????

Thank you very much for taking the time to write a review of our restaurant. It certainly would seem that you came on a very busy evening, although I don't ever remember turning over a table 3 times in one evening. There isn't a plausible excuse for bad service. However, I would be lying if I didn't admit that in the 26 years we have been trading there has been the odd occasion when we have been so busy that we have not been able to give the kind of service we aim to give to all our customers and on which our reputation is based.

As you are aware we are not in a High Street position but are very much out on our own with no footfall at all, and for that reason our custom is based on reputation, recommendation and word of mouth. We certainly wouldn't have been able to survive as long as we have, especially during the difficult times, if we didn't take great care in trying to preserve our reputation.
We have always charged a surcharge for selecting a starter as a main course and I know for certain that we are not the only restaurant to do so. We would not be able to serve the quality and choice of food or provide the luxuries such as linen table cloths and napkins if we were to reduce the average spend per person. The majority of our customers come to dine with us because they want to experience our food.
With regards the 'tacky fairy lights', we are in an area of outstanding beauty and are not permitted to have any signage on the road or leading up to our restaurant in either direction, we therefore have to do all we can to make people aware of our location. I guess 'cheapo chairs' is a matter of opinion, as our chairs, the "Vitra SIM chair", cost £200 each (currently £236 if ordered through Heal's) and are certainly not what I call cheap, especially when you buy over 100 of them.
I'm not sure if it is luck or hard work that has kept us busy and in business for 26 years, but I like to think it's been through dedication and hard work.
