“Best in Newmarket”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 1, 2013

I eat here with my husband as often as travel allows and have never, ever had a meal that was anything short of superb. The service is smooth and not at all intrusive, even the customers tend to be a nice crowd (and many are clearly regulars).

To anyone moaning about about Tony & Co....you may require a sense of humour transplant. Deadpan he may be, but the chap is an absolute gem. He knows more about food and wine than the vast majority of restauranteurs and it shows in the quality of what he puts on the table.

Highly recommended and excellent value for money.

“Rude on the phone”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed April 30, 2013

I phoned up to enquire about opening times, and got a pretty rude reply from the woman who answered the phone. If this is their idea of service, I won't be visiting!

“Quirky pub with great food, even for the finicky.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 26, 2013 via mobile

Great food and pub, with plenty of quirky aspects to make it an enjoyable experience! Loo in a 'jungle' and never did find the guy who didn't survive his one and only parachute jump! See attached picture.

“Consistently excellent”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 12, 2013

My wife and I discovered this little gem about a year ago via word of mouth and have visited with reasonable regularity. The extensive menu has a largely French tone and offers a range of classic dishes done justice by a kitchen that clearly takes real pride in the food. The food is unbelievable value, great quality meat and fish coupled with a broad selection of vegetables. The Tournedos Rossini or Veal Cordon Bleu will please even Parisians, with generous helpings for rather modest prices.

There is a London wine list at Newmarket prices, ask the owner for a recommendation to match your food...you won't be disappointed.

Service is discreet and impeccable, even the desserts impress. Above all the place maintains total consistency, in 30 or so visits we have never found anything less than excellent.....just make sure you book well in advance on race days!

The bar area offers a shorter, lower cost (although similar quality) menu if you want to keep the bill down, definitely worth splashing for the restaurant though.

“Absolutely delicious!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2013

This wonderful restautant in situated in the village of Ashley, about 4 miles from Newmarket, but is well worth going out of your way for. Yes, the landlord can be a bit 'Basil Fawltyish', but that only adds to the charm of the place. Oak beams, log fires, equine memorabilia, this has character by the bucketload! Sunday lunch is a areal experience - there are actually 16 different vegetables so be very careful with the first selection or you will run out of room on your plate. Roast beef is delicious, melts in the mouth. I did manage to force the creme brulee down and thoroughly enjoyed it. The service couldn't be faulted, everything arrives on time and is piping hot. Must apologise - forgot to leave a tip but will be back!
