“A brilliant experience from start to finish.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 9, 2013 via mobile

We have just returned from the Bedford lodge hotel and stayed in the junior suite. It was a lovely stylish large room with everything we could need. The bed was super comfortable. We ate at Squires restaurant and we had the best food we have had for a few years. Exquisite flavours, brilliantly put together, every mouthful was amazing. The staff were all very polite and very helpful. There is nothing to fault, we loved it and will definitely book in again soon.

Took family here for Sunday lunch and had a good meal, only complaint was one of the family had pheasant and thought it was on the tough side, the starters were fantastic, as were the rest of main courses, our waiter was a real star, so polite, professional and charming, overall a good meal, lovely warm comfortable atmosphere, no wonder we keep coming back.

Here are the bad bits - they're not many but probably would have meant for an excellent stay.

My main grudge was the seemingly surly nature of the reception staff - the arrival experience should have and could have been much better and in complete contrast to the lovely and welcoming waiting and cleaning staff - we both felt so uncomfortable that in the end we used the entrance to the bar to come in and out of the hotel, at least we got a friendly hello.

The other point was that at no point were we given any information about the hotel itself, i.e. the health club and what/ where the public areas in the hotel might be, it would have been nice to have had somewhere to sit and relax outside of the room.

The good: breakfast great, room spotless, location worked well for trips to Cambridge & Ely - we would probably stay again but...

Now you are always really concerned about staying somewhere over the weekend because of the interruption caused by weddings, equally at this time of year, Christmas parties too - I'm really really pleased to say that even though these things did happen, they didn't intrude on our stay one bit - fab.

Oh, and ask for a quiet room - it worked for us but, I'm never quite sure that happens by luck or judgement.

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room.

An excellently appointed hotel where we had obtained a reasonable "last minute rate" for b and b.
Shown to room 210 which was small and dark and was the nearest room to the elevator - a touch disappointing..
Dined in the main restaurant and I found the menu again slightly disappointing so opted for the fish and chip option. Distinctly average with better fish and chips being sold in a chippie just off the main high street in the middle of town. My wife had the venison which she described as excellent but objected to the minute nouvelle cuisine size portions.
and so to bed......... Even with a passageway between our room 210 and the lift we started hearing a very loud whooshing noise, switching off the a/c in the belief this was the problem, I returned to bed. Then found it was in fact the hydraulics or some such in connection with the doors or the lift itself. Too tired to change rooms.
Here's the kicker.......... Learned in the morning that the hotel was half empty from the front house manager and complained about the noise and received the response "Very few people complain about that." That's all right then!
Why would a hotel of this quality risk its reputation by letting a sub standard and noisy bedroom when the hotel is half empty?
Beats.Me

Room Tip: Not room 210

We stayed here for one night in an Executive Suite. These rooms are nice, with a separate sitting room, 2 tv's and a large bathroom. We requested (and got) a room at the back overlooking the stables which was interesting. It was spotlessly clean and the bed was very comfortable. Also liked the goodies in the fridge including chocolates, a nice touch. However, I had booked a table for champagne afternoon tea when I made my hotel reservation but when we arrived in the lounge they had no knowledge of this, which did make the girl rather flustered. She kept apologising whilst laying the table but it did take the shine off the event. They did however, unasked, take money off the bill for this. In addition, I did not find the receptionist particularly helpful or friendly, telling us very little about the hotel, breakfast times etc and her directions to our suite were so pre-rehearsed and quick that I abandoned trying to follow them and found my own way. But on the whole, I would stay here again. Breakfast was lovely, very freshly cooked.

Room Tip: Suites overlooking the stables are the best.

I was lucky enough to stay in the Bedford Lodge, Newmarket with work twice a month over a two year period and never had a bad experience. The staff are always very kind and professional and the food is exceptional. Their breakfast is simply the best way to start any day, I enjoyed it every time I visited. If you get the chance, you must also use the gym, spa, pool and sauna etc. The perfect place to stay for a weekend at the races!

We arrived at the Bedford Lodge Hotel with friends on Saturday 16 November for a day in the Spa and an overnight stay at the hotel. We were afforded a very pleasant and efficient welcome by the hotel reception staff on arrival and were shown to our junior suites before the normal check in time. First and lasting impression of our rooms was that they were spotlessly clean, spacious and luxuriously furnished with quality fittings. We spent the afternoon at the newly opened spa and enjoyed the fabulous facilities, including lunch and drinks in the lounge area, following which the wives had prebooked various individual treatments which they advised were excellent. The Spa experience was second to none with superb facilities and pleasant and professional staff. On the Saturday evening we had a table for 8 in the restaurant and everyone had a great meal chosen from an extensive menu. The level of service in the restaurant and standard of food was very good. On Sunday morning we asked to keep our rooms for an extra hour past the normal check out time as we wished to spend the morning in Newmarket, and this was agreed by the reception staff with no issues. Overall the hotel, it's facilities and staff are first class and competitively priced and we would highly recommend it.
