I went here last night for my 30th birthday.
We arrived and were met by a young man who didn’t look too impressed to see us, we made us feel very uncomfortable from the outset and felt like we weren’t welcome.
After ordering our drinks my husband asked your staff member if there was any alternative to the menu we had been given as my father in law wasn’t sure about the options on there.
The member of staff then went and checked in the kitchen. When he came out he said that we could only have what was on the menu we already been handed, which was fair enough and followed that by asking us very brazenly ‘what’s the problem’. There was no problem it was a question which I don’t think was unreasonable considering we had all been on the website to see what we could have well in advance only to be told there was a choice of three starters and three main courses. Perhaps if we were told this when making our booking it would have been clearer and not questioned.
From that moment the attitude of thye member of staff towards us changed!
My husband asked the young man if we could order which he said was fine but didn’t come back to us for another 10-15mins.
When he did come back to start taking our orders that is when my husband noticed what was written on your member of staffs note pad, the descriptions of each person was as clear as anything and they were shocking.
Ok its fair enough for peoples descriptions to be written down so that they can be recognised when bring the food out, but what he wrote was awful, terrible in fact the worse thing I’ve ever seen in a restaurant. He described my husband as the worst word in the word which begins with a C!!!!
Once he had been confronted he scribbled out what he had written, but we took a copy and you can still clearly see it. I can only think the reason he described my husband as what he did was because he questioned the menu on his father’s behalf.
We left shortly after this, taking a photocopy of what was written and being assured that the young man was going to be asked to leave after we had left!
We came to Tuddenham Mill for my 30th birthday and I can safely say it was ruined and there is no compensation available for this, NOTHING. We knew the reputation for your food is good and we were prepared to pay for good food, being a party of 8 we estimate our spend to be in the region of £450.00 including our drinks.
The chef apologised and offered us free extra dishes, I’m afraid this isn’t good enough and we wont be returning.
Perhaps they need to be more careful in the future when choosing your staff.
I feel so sad for them as reputations can be quickly broken.
I can only comment on the service and not the Food
