“The Best B&B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 5, 2014

This is our favourite B&B of all time and we have stayed here as a couple and with family and friends. The house is not only an architectural gem but also a wonderfully relaxed and spacious family home set in beautiful countryside. You couldn't wish for more helpful and welcoming hosts than the Juliet and Christopher Hawkins. What more could anyone wish for?!

When I first saw the Tudor barn the photos do not do it justice. The surrounding area is picturesque and the barn itself is stunning with all the natural oak beams, Tudor touches and huge barn doors that could be opened out (you have to see it!)
I booked this venue for my sisters hen weekend and I couldn't have asked for more. There were 17 of us and the venue didn't feel too big do us but could have taken more. The main barn itself could have slept 16 and there were 2 double rooms just off the main barn with ensuite a and a little snug (which we used to store our weekend activities). There was also a luxurious shower block and bathroom just a few metres off from the barn for extra facilities.
It was so much fun having to sleep in a huge open plan area with Tudor themed blankets and 2 four poster beds. There is also a log burner which we used on our first night surrounded by comfy sofas and chairs at one end of the main barn.
3 large tables ran the span of the venue which was great for us to leave out a craft table during our weekend with still plenty of space for eating and having a cocktail lesson one evening!
Then there is the kitchen- extremely well equipped. 3 sinks, ovens, 2 dishwashers, washing machine etc and plenty of cutlery, dishes and plates!
Either side of the barn are grassy areas and the weather was perfect for us. So people sat out on the park bench or on rugs on the grass amongst the lavender. There was space for table tennis and croquet (if we had had time!) We had a BBQ one evening too- perfect. Then I cannot forget the many bikes they have which can be signed out. Juliet had many cycle routes mapped out to follow and so much local information there wasn't enough time to do everything!
Truly recommend this venue. Out in the countryside it is in a beautiful setting but maintained amazingly!

Thanks so much for that glowing feedback! So glad you enjoyed what the barn and surrounds had to offer - and always good to find the place is even better in the flesh than the pictures! And thank you for leaving everywhere so immaculate. Please come again.

From first stepping foot through the door you could tell Milden Hall was really special. We had a hen party of 19 and the place was perfect for it. Juliet was really helpful and very laid back. The accommodation was perfect for a big group and there was lots to do on site and nearby, with a pub within a couple of miles walk. The photos online really don't do the place justice, it was absolutely spectacular. I have never stayed anywhere like that before and I really do think it is one in a million. Thank you for making it such a fab hen weekend for the two brides to be!

So glad you loved the Tudor barn and thought it spectacular - it really is very difficult to convey the scale and atmosphere of it in photos! We loved having you. Please do come again ...

We hired the Tudor barn for our friend's hen party and had a fantastic weekend and could not believe how brilliant the barn was; the catering equipment was great, the beds were very comfortable and the surroundings were special.

Before we arrived Juliet provided us with loads of info to help arrange activities for our hen weekend, which was really helpful. We booked a dance class on the Sat evening which was really good fun and the space was perfect for it.

Most importantly, our hen had a really good weekend and absolutely loved the historical aspect and the dressing up and that it was so relaxed.

Many thanks

We stayed in the B&B part of Milden Hall for a couple of nights (not the Tudor barn).

Juliet was on hand and proved to be a great host. Both her and her husband Christopher were full of useful local information and insights. We made maximum use of the bikes that are there and roamed the neighbouring lanes and villages for a whole day. We even dropped in on a Sunday morning church service in the cute village of Kersey. When we came back we relaxed in the large living room. We leafed through the massive collection of books and magazines with a big fire roaring away and the cat dozing alongside. There are some great local pubs with good local food and locally brewed beer (check out the Whitehorse in Edwardstone). We were free to wander around the farm and the adjoining fields during the day, had a game of table tennis under the potting shed. We had a massive bedroom with paintings, furniture with character and a large tapestry; it all felt quite splendid. Being an old building there is no en-suite here; my wife was unsure beforehand, but we were perfectly happy with the small walk up the corridor to the bathroom. Breakfast was tasty with fruit compote from home grown fruits, eggs from the very free range chickens and apple juice from the local orchard (we picked a few bottles as gifts for friends)!

We enjoyed a fantastic weekend in this beautiful tudor barn in February for a hen do. There were 14 of us staying and it was the perfect combination of being cosy around the wood fire and spacious enough to play a competitive game of table tennis inside! The barn is a fantastic space which we used for an amazing catered meal as well as some more typical hen do activities of life drawing! We were not too lucky with the weather but we stayed lovely and warm and were also able to enjoy a brief walk around the beautiful grounds. I would highly recommend it for a large group, it was the perfect setting but with all the home comforts you'd want.
