Enjoyed a busy 4 day stay at the cosy Wool Cottage in mid June, and it was sheer luxury. From a warm welcome by Carol (and a lovely stroll in her beautiful garden), to the most well equipped, immaculate and tastefully furnished accommodation we have had the pleasure of staying in. A little food hamper on arrival was most appreciated.
Ours was a nostalgic return visit to Lavenham to re kindle memories of a holiday with our young children some 25 years ago. This interesting and quaint cottage was without doubt the most perfect choice for us from the numerous cottages I had viewed over the internet. I can only imagine what the larger sister property, Blaize Barn has to offer and I would have loved a sneaky look. Maybe a return weekend trip with friends could be on the horizon !
The location for those new to the area, is perfect. Right on the main street and just a couple of hundred yards from the magnificent church. Car is easily parked just behind the cottage. No trouble with traffic noise and we had truly restful sleeps in a most comfortable bed. The cottage is so well equipped that you will want for nothing.
Quaint shops, supermarket, pubs and restaurants are all on the doorstep, and Market Square and Guild Hall are only minutes away. A stroll around the area is a must in order to enjoy the towns remarkable history and to see the numerous old, interesting and well preserved properties which are still standing (just about) and occupied. The wider surrounding area is also a walkers paradise with lots of well marked routes to choose from.
Driving along the country roads proved to be invariably quiet and allowed us to leisurely enjoy the beauty of Suffolk and take photos. We came across an abundance of idyllic and picturesque villages such as Kersey, Monks Eleigh, Chelsworth, Cavendish, Clare, and Long Melford, to name but a few, and most were really close by. (the cottage is well equipped with leaflets on places to visit).
We enjoyed watching the huge aircraft overhead near RAF Mildenhall (which itself was a beautiful town). A return visit to Snape Maltings was excellent and showed much improvement since our last visit. We followed Snape with a visit to Orford and Aldeburgh. Larger areas like Bury St Edmunds and Ely are not far away and were excellent for a day out. .
Wool cottage proved to be a perfect choice for us and is a perfect base to explore Suffolk. Highly recommended.
