Four of us ate at the Old Cannon Brewery on a Monday afternoon, just as the main lunchtime diners were leaving (which was fortunate as one group had a small unruly child who was allowed to run around the pub, screaming, opening doors to cupboards, putting sticky hands on other diners' chairs, etc. It was a much nicer place when they left).
The menu is typical pub food - sausage & mash, fish & chips, etc, but it was all very good: very tasty sausages, fresh white cod, good chips. There are also some daily specials and a decent selection of desserts. The home brewed beer is very good and the wine list is short but interesting - it's good to see English wine available by the glass.
The staff were friendly and welcoming.
We actually found this place by accident - we were hoping to go to the Pea Porridge across the road, but it is closed on a Monday - but we're glad we did, and would be happy to eat/drink there again on a future visit to Bury St Edmunds.
