“great gettaway”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 28, 2014

We had a two night stay at this lovely spa/break, however the bed was so uncomfable we didn't sleep the first night at all. We asked to have more quilts under our bed, and this was seen to by the lovely head housekeeper Netty her lovely sidekick Dione, more than happy to help, resulting us having an amazing sleep the second night. The food was second to none, absolutely beautful, every meal was great from breakfast, lunch and dinner. The staff, Manageress Melanie, staff, Stephanie, Hannah,Mathew etc etc were so lovely and attentive made it more lovely. All the beauty staff were lovely and nice. If you book for just a day and put your time slot, this may vary due to the amount of people that are booked in, so don't expect your food exactly on time, which isn't a problem as it is so worth waiting for, delicious is all I can say. We will definately go back, Not forgetting the lovely Stacie on reception, and all the other lovely staff we did'nt get the names of. Thank you all for a memorable stay much needed and much appreciated, keep up the good work xxxxx

Room Tip: ask for quilts under you bed for better sleep quality

Great Spa Day to treat yourself to if you like lots of pampering.
Therapists very professional and really made me feel special and not just a job.
This was a birthday treat for myself with a friend.
The food was excellent and the staff didn't rush us to leave the restaurant.
Anyone researching a Spa Day should consider this venue, ample parking and beautiful old house with modern facilities.

I had a 2 for 1 Bliss Day booked for me for my birthday and what a wonderful day. All the staff were very friendly and professional, the best back massage I have for a long time. Lunch was included, there was a good choice and it was delicious. The Hotel is wonderful setting for any special event and I would defiantly go back again.

We bought a deal for a 2 night stay with meals and 2 treatments each included. After our room finally becoming available after an hour and a half waiting for it, we confirmed our treatments as per our telephone booking. The times were wrong, the treatments were wrong and I was doubted of the extra money I had paid for one friend of an extra treatment for her birthday present. I was told I had to " prove my payment"! I did ring my bank who confirmed the payment but that still wasn't good enough as they needed to check their own receipt, yet this took 24 hours to do. We never had an apology, at all......

The hotel staff tried to tell us of their shortage of staff due to sickness, and therefore their weekend had gone "Pete tong", but as a customer, I do not wish to hear this and my relaxing weekend was consumed with arguing about our treatments and bill payments.

Long times waiting for food, even though we had to pre order all our meals, attitude from the staff and poor deliverance of any kind of apology for their own mistakes.

Such a shame when the facilities are lvely, and the food was exceptional! Compliments to the chef ( apart from the overly salted cous cous) as we enjoyed most of the food... I did not feel like a valued customer when I had spent a lot of money for this weekend and tended to feel more annoyed than relaxed......

Will definitely not return to this spa resort ever again......

I stayed here a few times over the years with my husband & loved it, was really relaxing and couldn't fault nothing, so I thought I would take my friend to stay there as a birthday present for her. We returned home couple days ago and it's safe to say 'I'm glad I'm home' how can so much change in such little time? Firstly the receptionist was really blunt and seemed like she couldn't wait to get rid of us into our room, however we brushed it over our shoulders and thought it was because she was just busy. When we arrived at our room and had a look around it I was disgusted, so much dust everywhere, the units all dirty/stained, beds looked like they had been slept in. All looked rather tatty, I still can not fault the food however, 10/10 for it! Pool side was relaxing although bit busy during peak times but that's to be expected. Beauty need to sort there timings out, our treatment was supposed to be 25 mins but only lasted about 15, like others have stated, it felt like we was on a conveyor belt. The 2 girls doing our treatments were mumbling to themselves about there home life/ past boyfriends etc.. Not very professional! You need to bring back the old staff & treasure them as there undoubtedly the ones who do a good job at the building, I.e the old restaurant manager, Dave or David? Much nicer /happier atmosphere back then compared to now with the miserable lady. The cleaners who were mother & daughter? Always made sure we had everything we needed & that our stay was all ok. and they wouldn't hesitate to have a chat with us even when they were rushed of there feet and we wanted to babble on (sorry) ...:) sad to say but I will not be returning/recommending this place unless things change.

I went with a group of friends for the day. One has not been well recently and on arrival was spoken to in a very loud voice, which a lot of other clients would have heard, that she could not have certain treatments due to this particular illness, which the receptionist referred to on several occasions. I see that this happened to another reviewer, and one might think that Clarice Hs would take note. Surely they could find a quiet room for this info to be passed over. Huge embarrassment and distress for our friend.

On arrival at the pool, nearly all the wooden loungers were covered with towels, tho we did not see the occupants for an hour or more. Plastic chairs a la cheap shop were the alternative with no cushioning whatsoever. If we were lucky to find a wooden lounger, again no covering, and with only swimmys and a towel robe, they were extremely uncomfortable. A lot of people lounging appeared to be eating picnics, and drinking from cans. There is a dining room and delicious food is served there, so why picnics. It meant of course that some people appeared to be there in the pool area all day. The doors to the gents and ladies loos off the main hall, should surely be replaced, because they were absolutely filthy and grimy. Manicuring was going on in a huge room with lots of people being manicured at once, hardly relaxing. A sort of chilly waiting room, with just a few chairs before you were called for treatments.

The massage was done with another person being massaged in the same room, again hardly relaxing.

I felt the whole time, that we were just numbers to be pushed through in the shortest time, with therapists who always appeared to be in a rush. The food was lovely tho, the only redeeming point to the whole episode, beautiful balanced menu, compliments to the chef
