“Great Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 31, 2013

This is a very nice Hotel in a prime location about 20 mins walk from the Train Station. Our room was pleasantly decorated with all the usual complimentary items and there was a good selection of toiletries in the bathroom. The staff were friendly and polite including the House Keeping staff. We loved all the odd "arty " artifacts and paintings that were dotted around the Hotel and in the Restaurant. The food was very good. We ordered Breakfast using a menu rather than serving ourselves from a buffet, which I prefer, but the selection was good enough. The Hotel's cosy underground Bar called the Wingspan Bar was amazing and well worth a visit. We hope to re-visit Bury St Edmunds and would definitely stay at this Hotel again.

We stumbled across this oasis as a "pit stop" travelling down south and were so impressed that we intend to make it a "destination" in itself in the near future. It is "coaching inn" ambience in the centre of this beautiful city with all expected "modcons".The staff were brilliant(especially Domingo)who just were so pleasant and helpful.Room was of excellent standard and you could hold a meeting in the spacious bathroom!! The cathedral&park just opposite and the hub of the city just round the corner in 3mins.Wonderfully relaxing

Room Tip: We had a room overlooking an internal courtyard but bright and very quiet.Rooms at the front seem la...

Three positive things about this hotel location, location and location, end of positives. Apparently Charles Dickens stayed here, I doubt that it has been decorated since! The room we had was dyer there was wall paper peeling off, black mould on the windows (which can be harmful to the respiratory system) and watermarks on the wall paper, I could go on. We were offered to upgrade for fifty pounds on arrival this says a lot about the room that was allocated. This is an old building however I have stayed in many period properties and they have been well maintained.
We had booked an evening meal in the eatery but the stench of fish on arrival at the hotel put me off and I cancelled. We chose to park our own car and know why the porter's offer this service the car park isn't up to much either, my advice would be to deploy the staff to give the place a good clean rather than trying to make out the hotel is quality when in fact it is shocking. The smell of fish had gone by the morning so we tried breakfast which was fine though I would not have paid the £15.00. We had a drink at the Corn Exchange Wetherspoon, guess what a building dating back to 1861 and beautifully maintained.

Nothing was too much trouble for the staff who were all very friendly and polite. The rooms were fantastic with everything we could wish for, including robes and a Bose iPod dock. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. Write simply everything was 100% perfect.

We have stayed at the Angel a few times now, regularly eat at the Eaterie and enjoy chilling out for drinks in the Wingspan bar. Its a must try for that 'special' feeling. The staff cant do enough for you, the food is delicious and the selection of wines is vast.

On arriving the porters are there to unload your luggage and park your car somewhere near by as there is no direct Hotel car park for long stay. However this system works very well. All the staff are very friendly and helpfull. We were part of a large group which booked 20 rooms as we were all attending a function near by. The French lady on the reception desk was very helpfull and so was the office/functions lady Sarah Kershaw. We were very lucky to be upgraded with our room to room 231 which was great. It had a huge walk in shower/wet room. A real treat.!! (this room was on the first floor overlooking court yard, fine for us as we did not need a view as we know the town) Thanks so much for that. We ordered room service lunch which was nicely served and was brought to the room by the porter who parked our car...the staff do multi task !! (Possibly this is because the Hotel was fully booked. ) If you get the chance be sure to visit the bar down the stairs, near reception open for residents, (used to be called the vault) its something different !! Breakfast was served in the restaurant and ordered from the menu, with waitress service, and a decent choice available and was very nice. We gave the requested 5 to 10 mins notice of our departure and our car was delivered to the front of the Hotel. Wow great service. An enjoyable one nights stay. Thanks so much.

Room Tip: You have to expect some degree of noise in general, but that has to be accepted when booking a Tow...

On both occasions we have had a thoroughly relaxing time a the Angel. Food was lovely and the service was very good too. Make sure that you get one of the newly refurbished rooms. We stayed in one of the huge suites which was gorgeous.

Room Tip: Ask for an upgrade and if you can spare a little extra go for one of the suites overlooking hte squa...
