My Wife and I have just returned from a very pleasant 2 night stay in celebration of our 30th wedding anniversary.

We stayed in Room No. 1 with very nice sea views - albeight of a very choppy sea indeed during our stay in early April! We were even greeted with snow when we were loading the car on the morning of our departure.

Our initial arrivial and booking-in was smoothly handled by a very pleasant and polite receptionist. We had one evening meal in the Hotel that was very nice indeed. My Wife took up the offer of 2 courses for a fixed price. I plumped for items form the main menu. Both of us were very satisfied. Once again, all staff connected with the Restaraunt were very polite and helpful.

We will return at some point in the future.

Stayed for one night over Easter. Had an inner room, quite noisy. Ate in the Bar & Brasserie, food good however, table chosen was a thoroughfare for the waiters/waitresses serving other customers. Lounge area too small considering overall price of the hotel - even though we were resident guests still relegated to the bar area and was cold. Breakfast was good up to the point that they missed one of our courses, after spotting a couple of tables had been served after us and we had waited for at least 1/2 hour. Would I come back? Unsure at this time!!

Thank you for your comments. I am sorry to hear there was a problem at breakfast, but equally pleased to hear this was resolved it on the morning you were with us. I have shared your comments to the restaurant team. In regards to the lounge, the White Lion is a building full of character and charm, and as you can imagine there is no way of extending the size of the lounge. However, key days such as Easter when there are a number of large parties joining us for meals and indeed staying with us does sometimes leave us short in the lounge, But the comfortable sea facing bar and brasserie area is a fine alternative. See you again soon. Best Wishes

Second time at this hotel and I suspect we'll be back again soon.
The staff are what really make the difference here, however they are recruited, trained and motivated it works, a really decent, friendly & helpful team.
We stayed for 2 nights in some of the worst weather late March has ever offered, that said we were there for the rest not to sightsee. I thought the deal (postcard deal - Bed, breakfast, afternoon tea and Dinner (with bottle of wine)) offered was very good value and I was particulaly pleased there were no restrictions on the menu!

We stayed for two nights at Easter when the hotel was fully booked. There is no doubt that the White Lion is a good hotel and we only had a couple of grumbles. First the positive: the staff were excellent, not that mistakes were not made but they were corrected without argument or delay (even when the wrong wine was partly my fault). There seemed to be plenty of staff, always attentive, including the manager who was often around ensuring guests were happy. The hotel is of very old origin but has had a modern makeover, which I think works, but that is a matter of taste. However expect old hallways and stairs with no lift if you are not mobile. The food was very good and deserves its rosette for fresh well cooked food, presented as you would expect for this rating. The hotel restaurant can be popular with non-residents so be aware that you need to book if you want to eat in. Our room was clean, recently refurbished and the facilities were acceptable for a three star hotel BUT they charge extra for a sea view and the windows were dirty. Staff said they had been cleaned the previous week and I understand how quickly things get dirty on the sea front, but it did spoil our enjoyment of the room. Soap and shower gel were decidedly stingy with one bar of soap for two of us the size of a peppermint. This is probably because the guests steal it if spare is left in the room. We asked for some more and it arrived in seconds, well done once more to the staff. Our only other grumble is the parking, which unfortunately is beyond the control of the hotel. There is a large amount of free unrestricted public parking at the front of the hotel which means at peak times you may not be able to park. There is always room to double park while you unload but a walk and possibly payment might be required at busy times. We had a very enjoyable stay in spite of freezing weather conditions and we would certainly stay here again if in the area. I have given the hotel only 4 stars for value because we stayed at an expensive time of year, if you are able to book off peak then I imagine a better deal is available.

Thank you for your feedback. It was a pleasure to meet you during your stay. As discussed due to the recent bad weather the windows have been effected, This is not the usual standard we keep to, with a weekly clean of public areas and monthly full clean of all windows across the hotel. As explained when we spoke and you pointed out, that even the cars on the sea front after one night had been effected by the salt air and high winds recently. Please contact me directly when you wish to return so I can personally look after you. Best Wishes
