“Not quite hitting the mark.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 24, 2008

My husband and I have just returned from our first stay at the Wentworth Hotel in Aldeburgh. We go often to Aldeburgh and have been lucky enough to have stayed at all three main hotels over the years. So this review is very much based on a comparison of the hotels.

The room we had was very large, sea facing, clean and contemporary. Unfortunately the TV that should have been there was out of order and the replacement was inferior and not really in keeping with the room or standard of hotel. However saying that you don't go to such a nice place in order to watch the TV.

As we were only there one night we decided to book in for dinner. This is where the hotel fell down a little for us. We booked in for 7, but when we got there I felt that they didn't really have room for us. They sat us at a table that was meant for 4 which was not exactly intimate. The waitress was harrassed and busy and we felt that we were an imposition not a valued customer. We were not offered the wine list or a drink. We noticed that 'regular' customers were recieving more customer care, but regulars have to start somewhere. The food was lovely, well cooked and presented, three courses for £19.95 or there abouts. However we felt irritated by then which spoilt the ambience of the evening which was a shame as it was our wedding anniversary.

Now that I have had my rant, which is what people do, I feel a little better. Go to Aldeburgh it really is a special place, stay at The Wentworth Hotel as the room was lovely, as is their terrace, but eat somewhere else if you want something a little more intimate and laid back.

We booked the Wentworth Hotel only a few days before our visit and were lucky to get a room. The hotel is well located on the sea front and has its own private parking which is a bonus in a busy seaside village. The welcome was good and the room freshly decorated, spacious and airy.
Dinner in the restaurant was very good and reasonably priced, the wine list varied and the service spot on. The table by the window facing the sea made it more special at both dinner and breakfast the following morning.
Lots of public areas to sit and enjoy reading, chatting or having a drink or cup of tea.
Thoroughly recommended.

We dined at the Wentworth Restaurant on Saturday night - what an experience, a proper good old fashioned "how it should be done" place. The food was excellent, the staff exceptional, the cutlery and place setting extremely tasteful and how nice to see a proper napkin.

The price is such good value £19.99 for 3 courses - I could not believe it, if you are happy with a pub grub place, or somewhere you can wear your jeans - happy with quick plastic food then do not come here.

If you like good food, ambience, delightful waiting staff a relaxed - don't need to rush from the table, "can you accommodate children" - then come here - its like going back in time, absolutely delightful, I only live 20 minutes down the road but I would treat myself to come and stay here.

Enjoy true brit foodies....... if you have a function or somewhere where you can rely on a good service - come here.
