“Great Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2011

We travelled up to this hotel as it was local for a friend's wedding. We extended our stay to two nights and visited Alton Towers as well. The hotel was great, it was clean, modern and had great services and facilities for the price you pay.

The staff were extremely friendly from check-in through to serving at the bar late at night. Our room was clean, modern and suited our needs exactly.

The hotel was about 50 minutes from Alton Towers but I would definitely reccomend it to anyone going up north to visit it.

Stay again at this hotel which is very handy for trips north and visits. The staff were very friendly as always and the public and private rooms were very clean and extra towels and beverages were available on request. The extra sofa bed was ready made for us as always and this bed always gives the children a good nights sleep. The buffet at breakfast time was unlimited and well presented. There is within 2 minutes walk of the front door of the hotel two places to eat your evening meal a chinese and a Pub that serves a good family meals with a good selection.
The hotel is very easy to find off the motorway and the rooms are very quiet and allow for a restful nights sleep.

We used this hotel just as an overnight stop-over. It's in a convenient location not far off the M6, but is lovely & quiet.

The staff were very friendly & the room was comfortable & very clean. It wasn't furnished like the more modern Holiday Inns, but it wasn't shappy or negleted looking. The room was very clean & the bathroom looked newer & more up-to-date.

Breakfast in the morning was the usual continental selection (cereals, toast, yoghurts fruit, pastries) with a couple of hot foods (scrambled eggs & sausages).

There was plenty of parking & it felt very safe.

There's a Beefeater type place & a chinese restaurant oppsite the hotel....we didn't realise they were there & had eaten in the Sizzler pub a couple of miles down the road before we got to the hotel. Alternatively you can order a takeaway & eat it in the bar area.

I've given it 4 out of 5, not because it's a luxurious hotel, but because it's very good for its purpose ...ideal for a stop over....you know what you're getting with Holiday Inn.

We stayed overnight prior to the Royal Wedding. It would have been helpful if the hotel had advertised the fact that it share a site with a pub and a chinese restaurant. We know from previous stays that the Holiday Inn express food in the evenings is not worth eating, so we ate before we travelled, but we could have had a quick pub meal on arrival which we would have preferred. Hotel clean and good value but nothing special.

This hotel is located a short drive from Stafford town centre (a few miles). The internal decoration is very tired although adequate (may have been refurbished by now).

I was extremely disappointed with the very rude attitude of the hotel staff, which was not up to the usual high standard of Holiday Inn and other IHG brand hotels.

During my stay, there was a problem with ventilation throughout the hotel, which made the lobby areas and rooms unbearably hot. I complained as I was unable to stay in the room due to the heat, the hotel staff said if I did not want to stay I would still have to pay for the remaining nights. As I simply couldn't sleep in the hotel, I was eventually forced to pay for unused nights and find another hotel as the hotel manager wouldn't change his position.

IHG, to their credit, fully refunded the stay without hesitation after I complained again to head office and offered a sincere written apology and a PC bonus.

I'd highly recommend the Travelodge in Stafford - not usually a Travelodge fan but it is central to town, free parking, modern rooms, very friendly staff and cheaper.

Looking for a break in your journey then stop here, so close to the motorway that to get lost would really be difficult. Staff really friendly and welcoming without being patronising. ........ pity that a thieving sixty year old (hope you read this, you will know who you are ) used the coffee machine to top up his flask for his picnic, complete with slices of bread, fruit etc. However the staff can't oversee everything all the time.
With a punch pub opposite with two main courses for Ten pounds and a chance to have a quiet drink what more do you want.

This is a no frills Holiday Inn Express which offers very good value for money and friendly, efficient service. If you want a comfortable, functional place to sleep then I'd definitely recommend it for short stays (particularly if you don't need wifi).

It's located on the M6 at J13, well signposted and, a very big plus, does not charge residents for parking.

My room was very clean with a comfortable bed, a small but effective wall heater and a functional, clean bathroom. The flat screen TV offered 10-12 decent complimentary channels and made no attempt to sell me pay per view nonsense. Despite it being so close to the motorway, I was aware of no traffic noise or noise from adjacent rooms or the corridor.

Downstairs is a typical open plan reception / bar / breakfast area. Breakfast is standard HIX - with sausages and scrambled eggs on offer as well as cereals, yogurts, pastries, tinned and fresh fruit. Not gourmet quality ingredients but edible and well presented.

Over the days I was there I met several of the reception staff and they were without fail polite, friendly and efficient, interacting in a natural, intelligent way rather than spouting robotic 'have a nice day'-isms.

My only complaint about the place, and it is a showstopper for me, is that they offer no complimentary wifi, not even in the public areas. It is available at an outrageous £15/day or £5/hour or you can purchase directly online from the supplier at £7 a day - which to me is still unreasonable, especially as the service seemed pretty flaky.

If they were to offer complimentary wifi, I would consider using this hotel a lot more for my business travel.

Thank you for your review of the hotel. I am glad you found the services in the hotel usefully and the staff down to earth. I will pass your comments on to the housekeeping and reception team. Due to the WiFi being supplied from a outside company so unfortunatly we have have no say on the charges however we have managed to get WiFi complimentary in the reception areas.
