“Special Birthday Treat”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 17, 2012

We celebrated my son's birthday here recently and cannot fault the staff or the quality of food. We had the Taster menu of eight dishes and each one was an experience for flavour, texture and complimenting tastes.

The wine selection is substantial and there is something there for all budgets.

The best part was being able to be in a room as a family. As we have young children it was easy to pass them on to whoever and wander around if we needed knowing that we were not spoiling any other guests enjoyment.

We stayed at Swinfen Hall on a saturday evening; its a (reasonably small) hotel with bags of period charm and professional but friendly staff. The bedroom was lovely (comfy bed) and the view over unspoilt countryside was great, a very peaceful afternoon was spent there when we arrived.

We did not eat dinner at Swinfen as we were going to an event elsewhere. There were two reaonably large functions that evening in the hotel - all the guests we bumped into said the food was great and the events appeared well organised and enjoyable. It did not seem crowded and certainly was not noisy - the layout of the building coped with this well.

Breakfast was very nice - lots of choice. the hotel was full but the staffing level was spot on and the food came very promptly.

The location is really convenient as its near to both Lichfield and the motorway yet the hotel and grounds were utterly peaceful.

Overall - great, I'd love to go again.

My friend and I visited the lovely Swinfen Hall on a Saturday afternoon for high tea. We were made to feel special from beginning to end by the friendly staff. Everything was superbly presented and the food was delicious, especially the divine melt in the mouth scones with mounds of clotted cream!
Highly recommended for an afternoon treat.

I recently went to a wedding at the hotel. Hotel weddings don't normally do it for me (been to 30 plus in my lifetime), as they tend to be generic and not very personal. In this case however, I felt it was very personal.

For starters, the rooms are very comfortable, with good quality pillows and mattresses and black out curtains (I value a good sleeping experience!). The ground coffee making facility in the room was a nice touch. The staff were very helpful and resourceful in helping with an extra guest who arrived unexpectedly.

The wedding itself was made all the better for the feeling of us being more or less the only people in the hotel (there were a number of other events on, but we did not notice). Drinks on the rear terrace were magical, and the meal wedding breakfast was held in an amazing pannelled dining room. Food was escellent and the staff friendly. Breakfast the next morning perfectly good enough (not mind blowing, but good).

I would not hesitate to use this hotel again in the future.

My wife and I have visited a number of times over the years and have necer been disappointed by the meals. In fact we held our wedding and meal at Swinfen Hall.
We had Sunday lunch recently and again the food, the ambiance and the service were exquisite.
Be prepared for about £70.00 for a Sunday lunch for two with a bottle of wine, but just treat as a special occasion and take your time and enjoy.
Regards. Gary

Room Tip: Relax and enjoy the food and the occasion

We had our wedding reception at Swinfen Hall in August, and had to write a review to share what an amazing venue this is. From the initial planning to the big day we cannot fault Swinfen Hall and their amazing staff. Ruth & Stuart we couldn't have done it without you! Nothing was too much trouble, everything we wanted was provided and more with style and class. The staff were so organised, attentive (but not smothering) and the day went so smoothly it was like a dream. From the champagne on arrival, to the amazing food (our guests commented that it was more like going out for a gourmet meal than wedding food!), arrangement of the tables, decorations and the evening do!! We chose to have exclusive use, and were lucky to have family and friends stay over. This was such as good decision as it meant we had the whole hotel and grounds solely for our, and our guests, use so the evening felt like a huge luxurious house party. It also made the whole thing much more relaxed for everyone. The breakfast the next morning was top class, and lovely way to catch up with everyone and share memories of the big day! We will definitely be visiting again. We cannot recommend Swinfen enough.

Room Tip: Rooms at the rear of the hotel have beautiful views. For old style luxury pick a room on the first...
