“Excellent customer service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 14, 2013

I've dined here several times since it opened and service has gone from strength to strength. The ambiance makes it special and nothing is too much trouble for the young, well trained staff.

Each dish was well executed and enjoyable...without too much fussing about with the high quality ingredients. The starters didn't sound particularly exciting (to my taste) but both were tasty...give some odd combinations a chance as they work. I do think that sufficient vegetable accompaniments ought to be included within the price and not charged as extras...they really didn't justify the price either.

Id thoroughly recommend trying this venue as a treat or to make someone feel special... I don't think it can be beaten in the Lichfield area.

“A first class experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 8, 2013

This was our third visit to Netherstowe House for a meal and to me the experience just gets better.

We took some friends for Afternoon Tea in May 2011, celebrated our 28th Wedding Anniversary in August 2012 and now went with Angie's parents to celebrate her 50th Birthday. It is certainly a place to go for a special occasion.

The setting is lovely. You can very easily miss it but once there you could be anywhere.

The staff are very attentive and smart yet not stuffy so you can enjoy a conversation with them.

I have not seen the bedrooms so can only comment on the receipt ion areas and dining rooms... Fantastic. Really comfortable and classy.

The converted cellars are a must to dine in. They have even converted to look like WWII bunkers and you can really soak up the atmosphere.

As a non drinker I can only comment on the non alcoholic cocktails and find the San Francisco to be a lovely drink. Other members of our party have had alcoholic drinks and found them lovely.

The food does not look very much in quantity but we have had the three course meal on two occasions and came away feeling we had eaten well. The quality of the steaks and accompanying food was excellent.

For me the price is expensive when I do not have very much each month to spend on entertaining. That said, when you take into account the standard of the place, the quality of the staff and the food/drink, you realise you have not walked into a high street restaurant where you would expect to pay less. The three course meal for four of us including drinks and a bottle of wine came to £198.

Would we go back again .... Oh yes, most definitely. I will have to save some pennies but know it will be money well spent.

“AFTERNOON TEA WITH CHARM AND ELEGANCE”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 21, 2012

I have had afternoon tea in a few charming places but this experience at Netherstowe House was in a class of its own. We were met at the door and conducted to a very elegant and comfortable sitting room and given a drinks menu so that we could select a pre-tea drink, While we were enjoying this relaxing time a group moved on to the dining room, A member of staff moved in and straightened the leather sofa on which they had been sitting, fluffed the cushions and cleaned a the table and drinks mats and everything was immaculate again. The afternoon tea was lovely and relaxed and we were not hurried even though we were the last to leave the table. We had peep at the downstairs dining room which is made out with a World War 2 theme. In all it was a delightful experience. I intend to go with some lady friends one Wednesday in January as Wednesday is Ladies afternoon tea day.

“Our fourth visit at Netherstowe House”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed December 17, 2012

This was our fourth visit to Netherstowe House, three dinners and an afternoon tea later we are still disappointed. Our celebratory dinner last week was more memorable for the bill than the food. The scallops were tepid on arrival otherwise would have been nice. Our main courses did not live up to expectations. The belly pork was dry although the flavours quite interesting; to pay a supplement for a minute quantiy of beef was a disgrace. To expect customers to pay extra for vegetables at these prices is also something that is off-putting when thinking of returning. Desserts were good, particularly the panacotta. 'Fine dining' it is not in our opinion.
It is sad that the front of house staff are let down by the kitchen, as although young and probably inexperienced, the service staff were pleasant and welcoming.

NetherstoweHouse, Manager at Netherstowe House Restaurant, responded to this review, December 20, 2012
Thank you for your review. We are sorry that you found dinner so disappointing, and that you felt unable to discuss this with us at the time (we did ask and you said that you had enjoyed it). Our popular scallops starter, accompanied by fennel puree with mango and pure coriander oil, are pan-seared and served straight to the table. The pork for your main course was sourced from the local award winning Packington Pork Free Range Farm. Our Brigade of Rosette Chefs slow cook this and serve with winter bean cassoulette and crisp polenta. The Port and Madeira jus was made with a mix of veal and beef bones cooked for nine hours and reduced to a rich glaze. We would have been delighted to serve you extra upon request. Our duo of Staffordshire Beef includes 6 ounces of quality beef comprising fillet and feather blade seasoned with fresh herbs and garlic, served with celeriac puree, pommes dauphinois and mini onion rings. All our beef is sourced from a select number of hand picked local farms. Every cut is aged for a minimum of 28 days and prepared to exacting standards by master butchers. We don’t try and squeeze for every extra penny, but try to have a pricing structure that gives choice – some guests choose not to have extra vegetables, so we don’t automatically charge for it. I am delighted you enjoyed our Almond Panna Cotta dessert topped with poached cherries and that you felt our Front of House staff were pleasant and welcoming. Our establishment is family run with a long standing team, resulting in truly professional service with a personal, relaxed, warm and caring style. We are proud to have received the award for ‘Outstanding Service’ from Taste of Staffordshire and our Restaurant Manager and Head Chef have over 40 years worth of combined hospitality experience for our guests to enjoy and ensure they have a nice time. We hope that if you do return to Netherstowe House we are able to make your visit special.
