“Outstanding!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2012

Nick and Anne Marie are wonderful hosts and Pipe Hill house is a little bit of heaven on earth. Everything was amazing from the warm welcome complete with homemade cake to the comfy bed and fabulous breakfast. We enjoyed home made organic granola and museli, fruit from the garden, winter fruit salad made with Earl Grey tea, full English breakfast and delicious coffee. In our room there was an endless supply of tea and coffee plus homemade biscuits. Our room was extremely well equipped with lots of lovely towels and plenty of shampoo, shower gel etc. Pipe Hill house is a charming old house and with Nick and Anne Marie as hosts you are assured of a wonderful stay.

Wow! “A little bit of heaven on earth” – that’s a compliment! Thank you so much for such a fantastic review! We very much appreciate you taking the time from your busy schedule to share your feedback. We’re trying to create a relaxing, comfortable space where our guests can escape after a hectic day. And a good night’s sleep in a comfy bed is so important too.

As the seasons are changing and getting colder, the popular Winter Fruit Salad is back on the breakfast menu. The organic home-made cereals have won plaudits from many guests too. We’ve always made our own granola, the muesli was a new addition, based on trying different combinations of oats, fruits, seeds and nuts. The home-made mincemeat has been prepared and the Christmas cake has been baked, we’re just feeding slowly with brand – perhaps not for breakfast, but as a welcome addition when our guests arrive as the nights are drawing in.

Staying on business one night. The couple, Nick and Anamarie, were very accommodating, I was struggling with the time I was going to arrive and I wanted to stay as long as I could (11am) to work in the room. WiFi was good and inclusive, tea and beautiful biscuits. The room and ensuite was grand and very comfortable, very modern in an old house. The breakfast was unbelievably good. An absolute delight to stay here.

Thank you so much for such a great review from a business traveller!

It’s good of you to make the time to share your feedback and we’re delighted you could make full use of the WiFi. One of our bugbears is having to pay for WiFi so we’ve made sure it’s free of charge at Pipe Hill House, especially as so many people have iPhones, iPads as well as PCs these days and need to access emails, Skype and go online.

We’re thrilled you also enjoyed the Mega Oat Cookies and the breakfast too! The Winter Fruit Salad is back on the menu as local fruit is now finished for the season. We do hope to see you again.

We booked to stay here last year as a treat en-route to see friends. Unfortunately we received some terrible news before we left but the experience we encountered at PPH was an absolute God-send. They were unaware of our news so the treatment we got was their norm. We had also booked the Walnut Room and they kindly upgraded us to the Botanic Room which was great. Everything is to the highest degree and the level of hospitality and attention to detail went above and beyond what we expected. It is also done without being overbearing. We arrived later than planned and suspect that it was us who encroached on their time by taking a while with our tea (a wonderful welcome) but they were very gracious with us. I felt so rested and restored after being there and I usually find it difficult to unwind. It is all gorgeous and super comfortable and the bathroom is amazing! I would especially recommend PPH and the Botanic Room if you just want to get away from it all for a bit and de-stress, even one night is enough.

Room Tip: The Botanic Room has hotel standards with all the cosiness and comfort of a house. Worth paying extr...

We really do appreciate you taking the time to add such a superb review from your stay last year. Thank you so much for the compliments and we are so glad that we made your stay so comfortable and that you felt restored and rested after a brief spell at Pipe Hill House.

It’s interesting as people stay with us at Pipe Hill House for many reasons: As a half-way house on journeys across the UK, for weddings in the area, to visit the National Memorial Arboretum, when exhibiting at the NEC, as well as when on business and needing a retreat from Birmingham and the more industrial Midlands' locations. We think of Pipe Hill House as relaxing place to get away from it all and it’s wonderful when others benefit too.

My husband and I stayed for one night when attending a friends local wedding. We live locally to the B&B but wanted to make the most of a child-free day and evening. We checked in early in order to get to the wedding but were met from the car and shown our room. Unfortunatley we could not stay for cake and coffee but returned at 2 in the morning to our very luxurious room. The bed was incredibly comfortable and the decor very simple but elegant. The house and garden is a work in progress but if all the rooms were like our one then they are doing a brilliant job. Lots of nice touches - fresh water, fridge, biscuits, chocolates on our pillows and lovely soft toweling robes and towels. Breakfast was great - a full English with lots of home made jams, breads, mueslis as well as a "breakfast trifle". Plentiful tea and juice as well.

Would highly recommend this place. Nick and Annemarie are very good hosts.

Room Tip: Room at the top with the king size bed and massive bathroom.

Thank you so much for such a brilliant review! We were surprised that someone so local was staying, but as you said, it was a getaway and the break you really needed. We're delighted you liked the complimentary fresh water and home made biscuits in the room, along with the waffle dressing gowns and slippers.

Great to know that you highly recommend Pipe Hill House too!

Thank you so much for taking the time to add your fabulous review! We’re thrilled that you’ve elected us as the best b&b you have stayed in, that’s a real compliment.

The jams now include strawberry as we managed to make pots of this during the summer. Soon we’ll add porridge back onto the winter breakfast menu and when you’re visiting the area again, we’d be truly honoured to welcome you back.

We booked for a one night stay. This is the best B&B we have stayed in. Everything was right from the warm welcome, the excellent en-suite room (including ground coffee in the fridge) to meeting the hens next morning as they fossicked under the fruit bushes in the garden. You can buy wine and order a light home-cooked meal if you don’t feel like going out in the evening. Alternatively, guests are invited to bring in their own wine and take-away meals which can be eaten in the dining room. The house is beautifully restored (some rooms still to be tackled I believe) and is reputed to have some recycled stones from the Roman settlement at nearby Wall in its construction, though we were not wakened at midnight by headless legionnaires! Our experience confirms that at least one set of TripAdvisor ratings is spot on.

Thank you so much for joining Trip Advisor to provide such a brilliant review! We are honoured that we're your first review.

Having 'smuggled' bottles into many B&Bs ourselves, we encourage our guests to openly bring in their own wine and if they've forgotten, we have a delightful selection of vintner selected wines, as well as botanical gin, barley vodka and nightcaps of armagnac, cognac and some special single malts. Our rooms include a corkscrew and white wine glasses, plus we have red wine glasses and ice buckets available to use.

You'll be pleased to hear that the hens are moving towards their winter diet; more porridge and added pumpkin seeds as they've eaten us out of raspberries and blueberries. They will continue to fossick in the fruit cage, although egg production decreases in the winter, so the home made quiche, as a snack, is taken off the menu!

We hope your visit to the next B&B was as successful as your stay at Pipe Hill House.

On arrival, we were greeted by Nick and Annmarie with tea and coffee and a choice of delicious home baked cakes.
The rooms were extremely well equipped with every detail imaginble, down to fitered water and home baked cookies, complete with the recipe. Every fitting was of the finest quality and the decoration throughout was tasteful and in complete accord with the spirit of this historic house.

Breakfast was a feast of delights, with a choice of home made preserves and cereals, locally sourced seasonal fruits and excellent cooked choices, again all locally produced.

We had a truly restful and relaxing stay in the most hospitable and friendly environment. Can't ever remember a better experience in many years of travel.

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your feedback, especially as we can see you’re a Top Reviewer – you’ve travelled far and wide, so this is praise indeed! We’ really pleased you appreciated the way we’re restoring Pipe Hill House. As it’s nearly 300 years’ old we have to take great care.

We have to confess that the recipe wasn’t our idea, another guest said she’d like to make the mega oat cookies, so we thought why not share the recipe with everyone! And we’re delighted you enjoyed breakfast. Our breakfasts change according to the season and as the soft fruit season is nearly finished, we’ll soon move to our Autumn Fruit Salad. Thank you again for such a glowing review.
