“Good Food..........”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 16, 2013

Although the food was amazing and the location stunning, I found the service to be a little rushed and "off" by one particular member of staff and when I asked if it was possible for my lamb to be slightly more well done when I ordered, I was told in no uincertain terms that, no, this was not possible, that is the way it is cooked! Rick Stein was on the next table to us with a big party so maybe that is why we were not treated as well, which I have to say is a shame.

“Never fails”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 16, 2013

Charming location, charming staff, chef with a sense of humour and food to travel a long way for. On one of the hottest British evenings ever, a sensational artichokes and broad beans barigoule (wish we could find this again during our next few weeks in France) and a wodge of cold rare roast beef from a beast who did not die in vain. A high flying repast the previous evening made it seem unlikely that the next night could be better, but it was. Topped off with lemon verbena ice cream, celebrated on the More4 channel a few days earlier, a memorable couple of evenings. Oh, and this fella is a very experienced and renowned fish filleter, if hairy pig is not your bag.

“Really Tasty Food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 11, 2013

If you are going to this place it is a really good idea to book. We visited on Wednesday 10th July around 13.00 and they only just managed to squeeze us in. We visited on the back of other reviews we had read and where not disappointed - very good food, set menu for three courses around £18.00,

“Good old Old Spot”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 4, 2013

We love having lunch at The Old Spot. This was the fifteenth time since our first visit in September 2008, and we wish it could have been more often. The menu is always interesting and you can always find something to choose. The wine list fascinates. Disappointments are few. Chef Ian Bates cooks chicken so well - today I had poached chicken with bacon, broad beans and tarragon, and it was truly excellent. Not only that, but I had a glass of Chilean rose, and I wish I knew where to buy a bottle (or two). We'll be back again soon. Do try The Old Spot, you are bound to enjoy yourself.

“Nice little restaurant adjacent to the Cathedral”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 18, 2013

Although we were disappointed by the lack of a starter or main based on the restaurant's namesake pork (Gloucester Old Spot), the restaurant is nonetheless a nice find, with good food, reasonably priced wine list and, at least in late spring evenings, a lovely view of the Cathedral at sunset.
