“Brilliant!!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 23, 2011

We dined at Goodfellows last Saturday to celebrate my wife's birthday.
The four of us had the "tasting menu" and were treated to a gastric delight!
The fish was superbly cooked, well presented, and explained by the superb waiters.
The wine was excellent too!!!
We will return again soon!!!

“Magical taste sensations abound ...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 15, 2011

... it was like being oneof the judges on Masterchef and tasting the food but actually gettng to eat all of it - and then another 2 courses!

Both my pollock with celariac puree and truffle oil and the wife's scallops (with caviar and cucumber spaghetti no less) were out of this world, simply the best fish dishes I've eaten for a very long time.

The £20 for 2 courses menu is an absolute bargain for those of us who can't afford the £55 tasting menu. Thank you so much Goodfellows for bringing this high level of culinary delight to the not-so-wealthy inhabitants of Wells and us tourists too.

“Wonderful artisan bread, seriously good fresh fish & a 2 course dinner with a glass of wine for £20 - Brilliant !”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 30, 2011

What a find! - though I must admit I have walked right past this place for years thinking it was too expensive, which at first glance it appears to be. The trouble is that there seems to be two restaurants next door to each other run by the husband and wife team at Goodfellows. One is a dedicated fine fish restaurant were the taster menu is at £55, at the back of the building, and the other is the one I've just found at the front of the building where the food is still produced in the same kitchen by the same remarkably good chefs, but waiter served at value for money prices in a different seating area. For example, Lunch here is a main course, a dessert and a glass of wine for £10 per person, whilst Dinner is a main course, a dessert and a glass of wine for £20 per person. The evening menu is more substantial and the quality of the wine is better. There is a definite French twist to the menu here, the cassoulet was superbly done, and the fish du jour (Pollock) was so fresh you'd think that Wells was nearer the sea than it is. Two great things about this restaurant are the bread and the home made desserts, both made fresh every day. Two different sorts of great artisan bread are served with a meal. For example - Spelt with raisin and walnuts. We liked it so much, that we walked out the restaurant that evening clutching a loaf of this wonderful bread under our arm! The individual desserts are just incredibly delicious and look as good as they taste. Next Time you're in Sadler Street don't repeat my mistake and walk by, walk in.

“Best meal I have had recently”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 15, 2010

What a treat to be taken to a restaurant by friends that really lives up to the standards it sets for itself. An open kitchen and friendly staff serving up some of the best cooking i have experienced. Careful preparation and a deft hand with balancing ingredients left us feeling we were in the hands of a creative and confident chef. A real treat well worth seeking out.

“Wonderful food.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2010

The food in this restaurant is superb. My husband and I visited Wells on 28th September and went to Goodfellows for lunch. Although the lunch menu was very short it was delicious and the main course probably the best fish either of us have ever eaten. We cannot wait until we are able to visit this restaurant again.
