In busy summer season we walked in and got one of the last family rooms. The staff was indifferent at best at check-in, in response to ANY questions, and at check-out. We never received our wake-up call so thank goodness we didn't have to be somewhere that day. When I mentioned this to them their response was "oh well". The room was horrible; somewhat dirty and really claustrophobic. The beds were so bad 2 members of our familiy chose to sleep on the floor. (The springs were sticking up). The tiny window gave little air. I had the worst night of our month's trip to the UK. Of all the farmhouses, modest hotels, and expensive hotels this was by far our only bad experience in the UK.
One of the other hotels around the corner was at least honest with us that their room was going to be very noisy due to a farmer's market the next day. Next time I would definitely not go to the Best Western Swan, but to the other old hotel as I give them points for honesty, while the cramped quarters and horrible beds with springs sticking through definitely made for a horrible night's sleep.
