We thoroughly enjoyed our short break with Steve and Sheila. The whole experience was great and we will certainly be back to stay. A most welcoming place and calm and quiet encouraging total relaxation in a beautiful village. We even stocked up for Christmas from the shop.

Steve and sheila take great pride in what they do.The overall quality and standard of what they provide would be hard to better. The breakfast should be singled out for special praise as it is simply amazing !

I was accommodated here during a recent mountain biking holiday on Exmoor, I was made very welcome from the moment I arrived, and was welcomed with fresh coffee and cake. The room and breakfast were both of an excellent standard, and the owners even allowed us to store our dirty bikes in there back yard, which involved them being carried through there own living area over a cream carpet! I was also impressed that the owners provided us the use of a shower after our final days riding before we headed home. An excellent B and B and an excellent weekend.

Stayed here in the middle of July 2012. The place has a great feel and the family owners made us extremely welcome. Steve and Sheila run the accommodation with daughters Lauren and Jenny helping in the breakfast room ..... and the Christmas shop ....yes in July! The rooms were spotless - we managed to view a couple of them and took the one overlooking the main road. Great four poster bed and inroom luxuries. Breakfast was speedy and filling. The service from everyone was first class. The location of Exmoor House is brilliant for visiting the coast around Minehead as well as for the country walks around the castle area and surrounding countryside. We will go back there without question.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back are bound to be quieter but our experience at the front of Exmoor House overlookin...

5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 25, 2012

On a sunny Sunday in August, we made a spur-of-the-moment decision to visit one of England's most picturesque villages - and had the nerve to expect the first bed-and-breakfast we found online to have not just a room free for the following night, but just the room we wanted ... at a reasonable price. No chance, we thought! At such short notice, we had no right to expect it.
How wrong we were! Dunster's lovely. The Stag's Head next door to the Exmoor House, where we stayed, is a great pub - food and beer. But the hotel itself turned out to be the best part of a lovely, 24-hour holiday. We will definitely be back.
Steve and Sheila have only been in the business since last November, but you wouldn't know it. The Exmoor House is not just good; it's clever. The welcome is friendly and everything is just as you'd want it.
Our hearts sometimes sink on arrival at small hotels. All too often the bedroom we were dying to get into turns out only to be fit for dying in - stuffy, congested, uncomfortable and full of bits and pieces that don't work or keep one awake half the night.
Steve and Sheila have worked hard to ensure there's no such sinking feeling at the Exmoor House. Our room - booked at the last minute and still only £74 for the two of us - was airy, spacious and thoughtfully provided with every little extra for a comfortable stay, from the hairdryer in the chest of drawers and the fresh milk in the fridge. The bedroom ceiling fan works, the fan in the shower room is silent; there were wine glasses for two and a corkscrew left out on the side and, on the landing book case, a biography of Lyndon Johnson. They don't live as well as this up at Dunster Castle, I'll bet!
Breakfast was excellent: good choices, well cooked, and, again, the dining-room is comfortable and airy.
On the other side of the hotel's hallway from the dining-room is a little gift shop where it's, well, Christmas ... every day of the year!
Our stay at the Exmoor House was perfect - as if all our Christmases had come at once.

Our family of eleven practically took over the house, and our hosts could not have been more helpful or discreet - always there if we needed help of any kind. The accommodation and food were excellent, and it was lovely to have the use of the guest lounge in the evenings for the family.

This is our second stay with Steve and Sheila who made us so welcome for our four day stay following our wedding on 11th August.

We had the four poster room this time and were pleasantly surprised to find a bottle of champagne in our room. The room was spotless, comfy and what was a nice touch was the clock radio with ipod attachment. There were also two comfy chairs, tv where we could relax and have talk. There was also an en-suite with double shower. The windows face onto the oldest street in Dunster and may be subject to traffic noise which was not a problem for us as it is a beautiful town.

The breakfasts' were great and I felt obliged to have a fry up every morning, but there is a large selection of cereals and fruit on display.

The main reason for the stay is the location with lots of walks and beautiful locations to visit like Lynton and Lynmouth and Porlock with the Church gallery, our favourite and fish and chips down at the Porlock Weir. Unfortunately we did not get chance to try the fish and chips this time which means another visit!!!

Steve and Sheila made us feel very welcome, we enjoyed our stay and we have no hesitation in recommending the hotel to anyone else.

Room Tip: Book at the Exmoor House Hotel!
