“We didn't want to leave!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 14, 2014

Back home from spending a fab 4 nights in a 3 bed Cheddar Lodge last week! I traveled with my mother, 8 year old son and 14 year old niece. All had a great time on this wonderful park.

Everything on this park is of excellent standard (we had lodge #61) - On entering our lodge, all of us were flabbergast at the decor and space of the lounge and the more we investigated, the better it got. Yep - these are not wood lodges, but to be honest, that was not a concern.

The lounge/kitchen/diner was huge! Two large sofas, flat screen TV, fully equipped kitchen (Beautiful), six seat dining table, oh and a large walk in cupboard housing a washer/dryer, iron and ironing board and a quality hoover! The twin room was a very good size, it had full size single beds with lovely bedding, flat screen TV, walk in wardrobe and bedside cabinet between beds. Across the passage was a large bathroom - very modern, full size bath, built in basin and loo. Towels were so very thick and great quality.

The double bedroom was large with walk through wardrobe to the on-suite shower room (double size shower - great power). My mum was made up with this room!

There were extra touches like i-pod docks, board games, chargers etc. We had a couple of minor issues - the last visitors had snapped a plug in the socket but the maintenance guys were amazing - happy, friendly and very professional.

The reception/front office team were great and special thanks to Bartek who was lovely, very helpful and knew his stuff!

The kids had regular swims in the pool (it does have a spongy bottom) and took part in several activities including Archery, Fencing, Snorkeling with this water jet thing and Body Zorbing (hilarious). The activities were around £10 - £12 each and the each session was around 1 1/2 hours so well worth the money! We got massive thumbs up from both kids, the youngest of which now wants to make a career out of them all! The Go Active team members were absolutely fab - enthusiastic, patient, funny and likeable! They are on the go all day - so hats off to them!

We spent our evenings in our lodge so cannot form opinions on the evening or restaurant but the areas were of a very good quality.

To sum up, we had a fab time, you are right near Cheddar Gorge, and about an hour from Longleat. We will go back at some point (quite possibly this year). The best accommodation I have stayed in, I would give it 5*.

Room Tip: We had Lodge 61. Each set of 12 or so Lodges have their own road name - very quaint. This lodge was...

Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your visit to Cheddar Woods. I am so pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay and found the lodge so comfortable. It is brilliant to hear you tryed out some activities while you were with us and that they enjoyed them so much. Perhaps a Go Active Instructor career is the path for them? Bartek also wished to send this thanks for your lovely comments and we hope to see you again soon, maybe for a litttle longer next time.

We spent a long weekend at Cheddar Woods and will definitely be returning. The lodge was booked as a surprise by my husband for my birthday, and he couldn't have found anywhere better. We had a premier lodge which comfortably slept 6 people. All the amenities you require were included. Spotlessly clean and very helpful, friendly staff.
Looking forward to coming back later this year.

Just returned from a mid-week break and have to say 95% of the stay was perfect. We were in a 4 bedroom Premier lodge that had 2 doubles with en-suite and 2 singles who shared a further bathroom. Our lodge was brand new and only sited 2 weeks prior to our stay so as you would expect it was spotless. The kitchen is well equipped with a dishwasher, toaster, microwave and full size oven. Bedding was good quality and towels were also provided. The eight person Hot Tub was a very pleasant way to spend half an hour while watching the sun go down.

The facilities in the club house ranged from a swimming pool, restaurant, spa, a small shop and bar and skittle ally. All were very clean and tidy as was the park itself was clean and tidy. The swimming pool and the changing area were of very good quality.

There were some very small niggles that hopefully will get sorted out in the near future. First was the Wi-Fi in the lodge. Although this wasn’t expected when we booked, it was very hit and miss, with everyone in our party registering a device with a specific code registered to the lodge, then another log-in from a paper slip. Laptops worked fine, however mobiles and tablets kept having to re-register all week. Plus the Wi-Fi blocks random sites from You-Tube to Sky News!

The shower in one of the bedrooms was very small and there were no where in any of the showers to place your shampoo etc. apart from the floor of the shower. A shelf would be nice as you had to almost get out the shower to bend and pick up the shampoo!
Advertised in the welcome pack was the football being shown in the bar, so the men of the group went to watch some and we could only watch it as the bar staff couldn’t or wouldn’t turn up the sound!

All activities are aimed at the pre-teenager apart from only a couple, more adult themed or teenage activities would be nice, however those that were on offer to the young looked well designed and professionally run

The shop on site, isn't really a shop as such, no papers, no bread, no milk - it's a trip to the local petrol station for these!

And lastly, although the hot tub is very nice, the water still pumps round it at night and it hums through the lodge. Can take a while to get used to it at night as there isn't any other noises to hear

These are only very small things and wouldn’t put us off returning. It’s an ideal central location to not only visit Cheddar itself, but Weston Super Mare, Brean, Shopping in Street and many other attractions are only 30 minutes by car.

Overall a relaxing place to stay.

Room Tip: Ask for a lodge up the hill away from the road and the entrance. We were 168 and loved it up there!

Thank you for your comments about your visit to us here at Cheddar Woods. I am so pleased to hear that you had a good time and enjoyed your visit. Thank you also for pointing out for us the issues with regard to the shower and football, we had not realised or considered this and I will definately investigate some way of addressing these issues for the future.

I am however sorry to hear that none of the adults in the group took advantage of the activities as there are a number that can be great fun for the 'older children' also but I am sure we can convince you to have a try on your next visit.

I hope we will see you again in the near future and have a lovely easter.

We booked a 4 night stay here and by the end really wished we'd booked for longer. Fantastic, well equipped accomodation in delightful surroundings. We had a Mendip 2 which was great for 2 adults and 2 kids.
All the facilities were really well maintained and the kids thoroughly enjoyed the Go Active activities.
We will certainly be returning and wouldn't hesitate to recommend to others.

Just back from an Easter break with the children and had to post a review. This is a small and perfectly formed place which only opened last year. It was beautifully decorated, unbelievably well stocked and managed by a great team. The price was fabulous too - we stayed in an Axbridge premier lodge for 6 with a hot tub.

There weren't any evening activities really (small two lane bowling alley and a stunning lounge and bar), but there were lots of interesting "Go active" activities for the children in the day if you wanted it - like sea scooters, body zorbs, pool canoeing. The Go Active team were brilliant. There was also a climbing wall which looked great and a multicourt for tennis, football etc.

Like others have said, the food in the restaurant wasn't the cheapest, but it was great quality and we thoroughly enjoyed it.

Overall - we couldn't recommend Cheddar Woods more.

Oh and the location is superbly appointed for exploring the gorges and the beaches of Somerset. We'd also recommend visiting the North Somerset butterfly house nearby.

Just returned from Cheddar Woods and we were most impressed. Everything looks and feels brand new, very clean and well thought out.

The pool was great the staff were very friendly and the food at the club house was lovely.

Lodges were good, but our one a Mendip 3 had 2 very small bedrooms - this made it feel a bit cramped. We also experienced quite a lot of road noise - there seemed to be a quarry up the road so lots of big trucks go through. Please do not let this put you off as these were minor frustrations. The lodges were immaculate and very well equipped.

We will be back (but maybe in a bigger lodge).

Room Tip: Ask for a lodge awat from the road.
