“Great find for lunch”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 10, 2014

I found this restaurAnt by chance on Wednesday 7th May while walking from the Assembly Rooms to the Royal Crescent and am so glad I did. I wAs by myself and was made to feel very welcome. the sourdough bread was delicious as was the complimentary water. I had the wild mushrooms and Welsh rarebit with salad which was very tasty, followed by the chocolate tarte. As a previous reviewer has mentioned, I too struggled to eat all of this, a first for me as a confirmed chocoholic! It was too rich and dense to eat more thAn half. I would definately return for lunch or dinner when I am next visiting Bath.

“Lunch on a sunny day”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 6, 2014

Five of us had lunch sitting outside, as one of our party could not access the stairs to the lower floor.
We had a main course and four of us had desserts. We had a bottle of house wine: Claude Val, a Paul Mas from Vin Pays D'Oc. It was very good.
Main courses ordered were rib eye steaks and fat chips, served with watercress. Hake with a tapinade crust and John Dory with a sorrel sauce. The fish dishes were very good and good size fillets. One steak was a bit gristly but all steaks were well cooked and tasty.
We had one crème brûlée, lemon basil, three dark chocolate, cardamon, short crust pastry with a raisin and sherry syllabub and one Strawley goat's cheese. The brulee and the cheese dishes were very nice. We could not finish the other dishes. The pastry was good but the chocolate was a solid mass. We thought that a thinner solid chocolate base and a mousse top would have made the lunch a knockout. The cost inclusive of a tip was about £25 a head. We would all visit again.

Thanks so much for your review. I've noted your comments about the chocolate tart and will tell the chef responsible as it is work in progress as we only started this menu on May 1 and there are always a few niggles in the first week! We're so glad you enjoyed the rest of your meal and, when you come again (hopefully soon!) do let front of house know that you can't negotiate stairs and we'll make a booking for upstairs. Thank you again.

“Great again!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 5, 2014

I suppose we should try some other restaurants in Bath but since we've found this gem of a place we haven't been tempted to eat out anywhere else. Delicious food from an interesting menu which changes monthly, superb service, reasonable prices, what's not to love? This has to be our restaurant of choice.

“Quite superb!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 4, 2014

Just returned from a wonderful weekend in Bath made even more special by a dinner at the Circus Cafe and Restaurant. An imaginative seasonal menu (changed each month we understand) with great ingredients; a wonderful atmosphere and friendly, professional service. A relatively short wine list, with some very interesting wines - overall, a fantastic experience, and great value. A better meal than some I've had at well-known restaurants in London. Highly recommended

“Hidden gem!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 2, 2014

We stumbled on this lovely eatery on our first exploration of Bath. The staff were fantastic, the atmosphere was relaxed and the food was amazing. And a bargain too! We enjoyed it so much we visited again the next day.
