“Just Ok”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2012

We came here during the week - hardly any parking outside to the point where i actually got blocked in by somebody not very helpful. It is a bit dingy, cold but was very full - lots of locals coming for a drink. The food was average - i would say on par to a weatherspoons. We probably wouldn't go again because its so close to the centre of bath that we would rather spend our money somewhere else.

“Average place”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 28, 2012

Booked a table here simply from viewing menus online of local pubs/restaurants in hope that the menu would reflect how the pub/restaurant was aesthetically so we could have a nice meal during our weekend away.
Arriving at the pub we were very disheartened as we were greeted by a dull and dingy building. The staff were friendly enough, however I could not understand a word one of the male member of staff said, that could just be the accent though. There was no need to book as there was literally 3 couples in the restaurant section and a handful of customers in the bar, needless to say there was no atmospher whatsoever.
I ordered the sesame and honey duck on a bed of sweet chilli noodles... The duck was cooked okay, although I needed a steak knife to cut through the skin and it was rather dry, personally if I was cooking it I would have scrapped the sweet chilli and made a sesame oil and honey sauce instead. The presentation of the dish was lovely though. My partner decided to have the 10oz rump steak as it came with so many other things and seemed good value for money, now this is all well and good if you can actually manage to cook all the items to a good standard... The steak was ordered medium rare but arrived pretty much blue and neither of our plates were heated so the steak was stone cold in the middle. The onion rings were greasy and had no flavour and as for the drinks, the lemonade tasted faintly of washing up liquid.
Desert was delicious, chocolate fudge cake with cream. Once again lovely presentation and the cake was soft and moist, however I'm pretty sure it was shop bought and just served up in a dish there hence why it was so good.
To be honest the best part of the evening was when we left the place, and not until after paying basically double the price of what the meal was worth though!!!

“Warm friendly service, great pub lunch”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 29, 2011

We arrived as a group at 2pm - a little late in the lunch time slot (which finishes at 2.30pm), however received a warm welcome and friendly service throughout.

Whilst not a picturesque pub, the food was well cooked and pleasant with something for all members of the family.

Overall, well recommended for a lunch time meal after a walk though the country.

“Service with a smile and the best pudding in the world!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 14, 2011

The Cross Keys was a warm and welcoming place to spend a cold night. The range of food on offer was spectacular, in particular the range of homemade puddings. We went for the Chocolate and Pear Tart (see picture), which fresh out of the oven was the best pudding I have ever tasted! The staff were very friendly, and with large open fires it was a true joy to eat there.
