We needed a location for a 30th birthday party which was big enough for our party of 20 people and where we could make as much noise as we liked without annoying the neighbours. Cholwell Hall provided just that. This venue is extremely spacious, well maintained and provided everything we needed for the perfect party.

We were shown around the house on arrival by the owner (I think) which took about 15 mins to give you an idea of the size of the place. There is a seperate flat at the top of the house, which is kitted out with a kitchen and small lounge, where we opted to stay before the rest of the party arrived. All bedrooms were very spacious and there was no complaints from anyone from the party who stopped in any of the rooms.

The 'Red Room' is a large lounge with a fireplace in the middle of the room and this was where the partying took place. There was a karaoke machine in there complete with 2 mic's and a set of karaoke cd's. There was also a Hi-Fi system which gave ample sound for a good disco. A table football machine was also there but this was one of the cheap ones. You could also play table tennis but the paddles provided were old and damaged but we were'nt really bothered about that.

The kitchen had all the facilities you'd expect but I have to say the large beer fridge was a really nice touch!!

There is a pub within a few minutes walk in the village which we went to for a few games of pool. They also serve food.

The house has a list of recommended contacts for entertainment, catering etc which we took advantage of by booking a Magician a few months in advance - Simple Simon, I'd definatly recommend him, his tricks will leave you amazed!

Also, we hired some caterers for the evening http://www.nibbledcatering.co.uk/ These were not on the recommended list from the house, but they should be included soon. If you do need caterers, look no further than Nibbled - I'll happily give a reference. They were so friendly, professional and the food they cooked for you was beautiful.

Overall, a great venue for a great birthday weekend. I would go back again given the chance!

Cholwell Hall in Somerset is an excellent location for a large group occasion. The house is spacious and the facilities available are excellent. The lounge area does have a slight feel of a youth centre (complete with karaoke) but the formal dining room more than makes up for this. The outside (splash) pool is clean and the play fort will entertain young children for hours. Overall the accomodation is excellent. The only downside is the behaviour of the owner/proprietor who although listed as a contact was very rude when contacted and clearly not interested in booking arrangements. If you do contact him, rather than Lucy, expect a sharp and blunt conversation.
