Wow! After a nasty, nasty London hotel, what a great place Bailbrook House was!! Comfortable, clean, extremely nice and helpful staff. Wonderful breakfast. We were here on a weekend and just about had the place to ourselves (and with 3 teenage girls, it was nice so they could be themselves...)
I just can't say enough about how we enjoyed the beautiful scenery, quietness. Now we are off to Liverpool and I dread it...

We stayed at the Bailbrook whilst on a cycling tour - perfect for this as it is away from the congested city centre but close enough for easy access. The hotel feels like a converted conference centre, in attractive grounds and with large but somewhat functional bedrooms. The staff were extremely helpful and attentive, and probably a little unusually for a hotel there didn't seem to be a " typical guest ". Although the main buildings have some elements of historical character and charm, the hotel is essentially a functional option of reasonable relative value in a city where hotel accomodation is at a premium. The hotel met our specific needs very well.

I am urging people to read this review before booking this hotel as it is extremely disappointing! Based on the hotel website and brochure, myself and my sister booked this hotel for my parents as a Christmas present and ourselves as a special treat. On arrival at the hotel it appears as a beautiful building set on a hill and we were equally impressed both with the interior of the main building and the efficiency of reception staff on check in. However we were a little curious when a staff member immediately provided us with a full listing of good restaurants in Bath instead of their own dining room. After sampling lunch we understood why. Everything outside of the main reception and conference room (advertised in brochure under dining) was set in what may be described as annex accommodation - similar to self catering lodges which I have stayed in at budget rates on adventure/team building weekends. Lunch was served in what resembled a staff canteen very slowly and very pricey ( £32.00 for 4 sandwiches and bottled water). Because of this we spent most of our afternoon in Bath search for a good restaurant for dinner. Rooms are large and extremely dated, quite cold and small portable tvs - this description is of a superior king room so goodness knows what the standard may be like! Breakfast was fine for 3 of us but not for my vegetarian sister! We complained on check out to the same efficient staff who checked us in and suggested that trade descriptions may be interested in their brochure! Staff were quick to be rid of us telling us that a Manager would phone the following day. He did this, offering the explanation that the hotel had just been taken over and hopefully in the future it would "become the hotel we had expected it to be! Overall experience extremely disappointed!!!!

Overall my fiancée and I enjoyed our visit to the Bailbrook House Hotel but our opinion may have been swayed by the fantastic city of Bath rather than the hotel itself. We arrived at the hotel quite early and were impressed by the beauty of the reception building. Unfortunately the bedroom itself was situated in a more 'modern' 1960's building round the back. The room and bed were large and spacious but rather bland.

We spent the day relaxing around the hotel and made use of the small but excellent gym and sauna facilities. The reception and other staff were all helpful and friendly but because there was a wedding going on at the same time, service was at times quite slow.

We didn't eating at the hotel in the evening choosing instead to sample the nightlife of Bath but the breakfast buffet the next morning was excellent.

I would visit this hotel again in the future.

We were six ladies away for a weekend together, not for discos but definitely not ready for our Bath chairs! We had some misgivings before we arrived having read a couple of bad reviews. We had a wonderful weekend Bailbrook House is gorgeous even down to the ladies 'loo' on the ground floor. The close proximity to Bath is good (the bus stops outside) the only downside would be the hill to get to the House if you are walking. However, the taxis are cheap and cost us less than the bus fare into Bath on a couple of occasions. All of the staff were friendly and the Reception ladies especially so. The rooms were lovely and the breakfast was great, as much or as little as you wanted. Thank you Bailbrook. Sue, Carol, Jeanette, Phyl, Jenny and Julie

  • Liked — The house and grounds
  • Disliked — Only the hill but that is not a downside as such
