“Best B&B in Bath”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 13, 2007

My daughters and I had an unforgettable stay at The Henry which made our time in Bath the highlight of our trip to the UK. Liz & Steve went out of their way to not only make us feel like welcomed guests to their warm and inviting B & B, but they made us feel like part of the family.

Thank you so much Liz & Steve for your gracious hospitality, for the superb Christmas dinner with all the trimmings, the wine & champagne, the delicious desserts, and all the little extras that made this such a perfect day for the girls and I. Most of all, thank you for all the wonderful conversation and for sharing your fascinating lives with us. We will never forget Christmas Day 2006.

Also, a special thank you to Tony for going out of his way to drop us off at the airport when no trains or buses were running on Boxer Day. You're all the greatest!!

My partner and I escaped the hustle and bustle of London for a Christmas vacation to the beautiful city of Bath. We found a gorgeous guest house located in walking distance from the train station, to the main shopping strip and all the sites (like Bath Abby and the Roman Baths). On arrival we found the room to be welcoming, very clean and comforting. Steve and Liz made us both feel so welcome and included us in their Christmas celebration and thank them ever so much. We recommend The Henry to everyone who likes value for money and a home away from home. My partner and I thoroughly enjoyed our time there and choose to stay at The Henry for our nest visit to Bath.

The Henry in Bath couldn't be in a more convenient location, within walking distance of the stations (bus and train) and right in the centre. On arrival we felt very welcome. The Information at the hotel on where to eat and what to do was invalulable. We booked in and were sitting down in another restaurant for our evening meal within 10 minutes of our arrival!
The room was very comfortable as were the beds. Having to share a bathroom was no problem. The was a small window of opportunity for the full breakfast, one hour and the menu was not extensive. However, there was everything you needed. The cooked breakfast was nice and hot and very tasty. For the price the hotel could not be faulted and we will definitely be staying there again (which makes me wonder whether I should be spreading the word on what a good hotel it is!)

I don't normally write reviews, even for horrible places, but The Henry was such a great place to stay, I felt obligated to write about them.

We heard about this B&B from Rick Steve's book and decided to check it out online. It was reasonably price considering the rest of the hotels we were staying at in London and it included breakfast (of course). We paid 65 pounds for a double room on the top floor.

It is a bit of a climb to the top floor, but coming from the San Fran bay area, we're pretty used to it. It is a shared bathroom, but there are only two or three rooms per floor, and there were two showers and two bathrooms per floor. We didn't even see the people in the other rooms let alone be bothered by them. The room was large and there was a second bed stored there ready for use. The bedding was nice and cozy and even though it was a very cold night in Bath, we slept comfortably.

So why does this B&B get such a great review from me? The people. We came in pretty late and after showing us our room, Steve took an extra 15-20 minutes to talk to us about the sites in Bath and what to do there. He told us of a great dinner location where we met other tourist and hung out all night. He was honestly like our personal guide for the night. The next day, I was awoken by the smell of breakfast. You get a full plate of eggs, mushrooms, tomatoes and ham as well as a variety of toast and coffee, tea and juice. All made to order. And in the morning Steve came to the rescue for us again. We didn't know the times for the train going back to London so he said he would print out a list of times when we returned. I needed to do laundry so he called up a laundry service while we ate and they were ready to pick up my close by the time break fast was over. Everything was perfect and mainly because of Steve.

It really was a good stay and we had a great time in Bath. I would recommend it if you have a long stay in London.

The Henry was more spartan than other B+Bs we stayed at. That did mean that there was more floor space though, and all necessities were present and even the luxury of the tea tray (but not a tea table). While the loo and shower were shared, there was a sink in the room, which was nice. The room, a front room, had all the traffic noise one would expect from a busy street in town. It didn't bother us, but it might keep country dwellers awake. We thought the fabulous location was worth the noise.

The new owners had been in The Henry for only 6 weeks when we arrived. They are very nice folks and provide a great breakfast -- hot and cold choices -- everything one could want. They have not managed to sort out their wireless yet. (IMHO, they need a better service contract. The company that set them up keeps coming out and charging them for "fixes" which work for maybe a day. My husband had a look and found 2 failures and one redundant piece of equipment, but, it being a Sunday, couldn't tell off the "service" company for the owners.) Once it is working, it should be a decent, fast link.

My husband and I arrived in Bath by train w/o any reservations or a referral. We checked online at an Internet cafe just minutes before we struck out on our own to see what we could find. We were lucky to find The Henry and its last remaining room; the hostess was very gracious and welcoming, and the rate included breakfast. She also recommended a nice place to eat which we sampled and it was true to her word... the breakfast the next morning was ample: fruit and cereals, items in a wide assortment and freshly prepared full breakfast was scrumptious. They have Wi-Fi capability and were nice to let us leave a heavy backpack with them for the day. We referred a couple who also had just arrived by train, as we were leaving to return to Bristol.
