I've enjoyed this boozer for quite a while, so when they announced they were going to start Sunday lunches I had to check it out. As I say, it's a 'proper' pub with bare floorboards, eclectic artwork on the wall and superbly kept beers and ciders, it is in no way a restaurant. But the food!? Oh my goodness, roast potatoes, roast parsnip, broccoli, Yorkshire puds, er, er, forgotten all the other veg on the huge plate. We don't eat meat so mine was accompanied by wonderful cauli cheese, which the missus doesn't like but she was more than happy with the veg, yorkies & gravy. I live in Bath, so have eaten a fair few restaurant/pub lunches hereabout, but this was the finest I've eaten since my 1st wife's mother's (who is from Yorkshire, incidentally). As the waiter/barman amusingly pointed out, it isn't silver service, there isn't an extensive wine list and if you're looking for the full restaurant experience, forget all about it. But if a quality, well-cooked and presented Sunday roast is what you're after, look no further. Top-notch!
