Coming out of the theatre at about 5pm on a Sunday, we were starving and decided, at my request, to eat rather than go home and cook. I was pleasantly surprised that Brasserie Blanc serves food, including Sunday roast, all day and at reasonable prices.
There was a lot to choose from both food and wine wise that all looked very tempting, but in the end we both went for roast beef. We shared a carafe of red - anywhere that serves wine by the 50cl carafe gets a gold star from me - it's really handy if one person is driving and can only have a small amount.
Everything arrived quite quickly as the restaurant was quiet and the food was great. I was in two minds what to expect from a famous chef, "dumbed down" to a chain, but in the event every different thing on the plate was a pleasure in its own right, which isn't always the case with restaurant roasts. The staff were very attentive and friendly throughout and the meal was good value, comparing pretty favourably to a good pub roast both on quality and cost (the set menus generally look very reasonable and the a la carte less so as you'd expect, albeit not too pricey).
I would have two very minor criticisms. Firstly, I think we both could have eaten a little more potato and beef (sadly there was nothing that caught our eye on the dessert menu!) and secondly, being able to hear the background music with only a few tables occupied, it was really repetitive! Other than that, I can't fault it - La Flambe would always be my first choice in the area for a great, good value lunch, but Brasserie Blanc was definitely right up there. We'll definitely be back.
