Very clean, well maintained chain we use when need one night stay in area with our 2 children. Really efficient, friendly staff. Room quite cramped for the 4 of us but we were all comfortable and with the continental breakfast was good value for bank hol weekend at £79 for all of us. New air con system was appreciated as weather hot. Only real drawback was the location - it was 20 min walk into central Bath. Taxi back in evening was £6. Car park was quite small, although we probably stayed on one of busiest nights of the year. Have often used chain - better than travelodge and can be relied upon for a good value, comfortable nights stay.

I have stayed here a couple of times, once for business purposes and once for pleasure. The business stay was the most recent and unlike my first stay here, it was during the week.

The hotel is situated on a busy road which was not too noisy. However, the hotel's car park is not big enough for the amount of guests they have. When I visited there, people had literally blocked the car park by parking where they can. If you are therefore driving to this hotel, get there early to get a space.

The other area that needs expanding is the dining room for breakfast, again too small for the amount of people the hotel can take.

No restaurant but I was able to have a meal delivered by a local restaurant.

Nothing wrong with the rooms as they are standard in most of these hotels. I do think that this hotel is over priced compared to others in their chain.

“A safe bet”

Holiday Inn Express Bath

A modern box with good, clean rooms off a main road - exactly what one expects from hotels of this kind. A fairly easy 10 minute walk to town, free parking, reasonable continental breakfast. Overall, very good value bearing in mind how expensive Bath is and the fact that many hotels and B+Bs in the City are either central with no parking, or have parking but are quite a hike into town. Our room was reasonably quiet (ask for one at the back) and we had no problems with noisy guests. The room was pretty hot (you can't open the window much) even though it wasn't particularly warm weather but the hotel was close to finishing the installation of air conditioning in all rooms.

In town, I would thoroughly recommend the new thermal baths - but go during the week to avoid the crowds. The rooftop pool is quite wonderful. Not cheap, but a two hour session is plenty long enough (£20 per person).

For eating out, try Yum Yum Thai on Kingsmead Square - a really good 'bistro' style Thai restaurant.

“Fine for a night”

Holiday Inn Express Bath

Aug 1, 2007

We originally booked 2 family rooms for a girls spa day away. We were a party of 5 adults, so were planning on 2 and 3 to a room. When 1 of our party had to drop out, I cancelled one room by calling the hotel directly. There was no issue with this and the request was handled professionally. I did mention to the girl that there were 4 of us now.

Upon arrival, the desk staff were not happy with 4 of us sharing the family room. I told them that it had been mentioned clearly when I cancelled the other room, and they told us we could have it, but it was against their policy.

The room was clean although a bit small. We had to request extra towels twice, but they did arrive. The bathroom had only a shower stall, which was fine for our needs. There was a moderate amount of noise from the road and from the rooms around us. Take earplugs if you are a light sleeper.

We had dinner at the Indian place directly across the street, and it was fantastic. The breakfast was generous, but with mostly cereals and breads on offer along with juice, coffee and tea.

All in all, it was reasonable for the price (£109 for 4 including a pass to the Therme Spa). I would not choose it for a relaxing weekend getaway, but it's fine for business or limited stays.

The hotel was located just outside the city center. It was longer than we wanted to walk so we took a taxi to the main sites. The hotel was clean and staff were very friendly and helpful, gave us detailed maps of the city. Our room had a view of what appeared to be the play/sport area of a very old school that was still in use, very charming. We were there on a weekend but I imagined that during the week kids might be making a lot of noise on that playground in the early morning! The hotel was in the process of acquiring air conditioning (as noted by a huge sign on the outside wall), but we didn't need it on June 2. The night was pleasantly cool and cracking the window made the room quite comfortable. The continental breakfast was extensive with croissants, pastries, cereals, yogurt, cheese and fresh fruit. A very good value considering it was included in the hotel price. We would definitely stay here again, as we plan to someday return to the wonderfully ancient town of Bath.
