“Visited several times”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 3, 2013

I have visited the castle 4 times so always worth going. first time enjoyed visiting the ruins. Second time I took my children during the school hols and they were really into listening to the audio guide, third time they had a medieval re-enactment group where the children got to march as soldiers, and the last time was with the young archaeologists club where it was cold and wet but we still enjoyed the activities and shortened guided tour.

“A well kept secret”

A great location and atmosphere, the talking guide gives the visitors a real feel for the times when Farleigh Hungerford was constructed and used in its heydey. The chapel is especially wonderful.

“Great family attraction”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 20, 2012

This is such a lovely ruin to visit and its easy to feel yourself swept up in the history of it all. The audio guide is great as is the handbook we bought and were amazed at the stories that were told of this castle.

“History Brought To Life (English Heritage)”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 30, 2012

We really enjoyed our visit & cannot understand how we have missed it previously but so glad we have now discovered this gem. We were given a very helpful informative audio guide which brought the history to life. (Included in the entrance fee) What interesting stories we were told. Murder, imprisonment, executions, plots etc. Building started in 1370's although mostly a ruin now the chapel & Priest's house are still intact. There is a small shop & the staff are very friendly & knowledgeable. Hope to return with our Granddaughter. Plenty of open space & interesting places for children to enjoy. Suitable for all ages. There are stairlifts for some disabled acccess. There is a reasonable entrance fee but free to English Heritage members.

“Farleigh Hungerford Castle”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 9, 2012

I loved this place. You can feel the history. Built in the 14th century and located between Wiltshire and Somerset. Dont miss it on your way to Bath. I descend from Sir Thomas Hungerford which made it all the more appealing to me.
