I have just had the pleasure of spending two nights at the Apsley House Hotel , and can only join in with countless other reviews in praising this gem of a hotel . We stayed in the Champagne room , which was on the first floor . The room was well decorated , quiet and with a comfortable bed . The bathroom was lovely, compact without a bath , but with a good size powerful shower , and the added bonus of Molton Brown toiletries . Tea / coffee / hot chocolate and biscuits were provided in the room , and were happily replenished on request . Nothing is too much trouble here, every member of staff we found extremely polite and curteous , and if there is anything you need you just ring the bell in reception and it is sorted out.
Just a short mention here about the breakfasts provided as they are covered in detail by many other reviews .There was a lovely selection of fresh fruit / yoghurt / cereal , then a good choice of hot food freshly cooked to order ,and a different " Special " everyday .The food was delicious - First class all round !!
The hotel is ideally situated for a pleasant stroll into the centre of Bath , with the luxury of free parking outside the hotel itself . Many other hotels charge for parking , or supply you with a permit to park your car on the street nearby . The stroll into Bath took about 25 minutes , and took us through Victoria Park , which is a lovely park with a fantastic playground for children , and good size skatepark for the older kids . The park is very well maintained , and looked very popular with families . The walk into town is downhill - always a bonus , but taxis were a reasonable £7 or there is a bus stop outside the hotel if you want to save your energy for the shops!
We found that going midweek avoided the masses of crowds in the Roman Baths /. Thermae Spa . These were still busy , but not as frantic as on a weekend We paid £35 each for two hours at the Thermae Spa, included in the price was a robe , towel and slippers . There is an option for four hours , but we found two hours of being poached to death just right . It is a great place to visit and just chill out especially in the heated roof-top pool .
There are lots of fine eateries in Bath and the staff at the hotel are very helpful in suggesting places to visit , there is also a useful list of local places to eat / drink provided in the hotel information pack in your room . We visited the Weston , which is the second pub down the hill on turning right when leaving the hotel . This was a lovely pub , with very good reasonably priced food , not your typical pub-grub at all , and with the added bonus of being ten minutes walk from the hotel .
I have visited Bath before , and stayed previously at a 5* hotel , the Apsley House Hotel easily surpassed this . it's a wonderful place to stay .
